Mobile Phone Masts

Has anyone got one of these near their house? I got one put right next to my house, last year, as I live next to a big building, and it's on top of it. It's meant to be safe, but I've heard a lot of bad things about long-term exposure.

I've heard of terrible things...but may have been from that film Erin Brokavich.

You may get ill but the great signal is worth it ;)

I doubt it. That wasn't about a mobile phone company, but an energy company.

I'm somewhat interested in this debate, because there are plans to put a mobile phone mast quite near where I live.

It's all speculation. Nothing's been proven either way. Anyway, for each cm you get away from a phone, the strength of the signal drops to the ... cube root of itself. Or something. I think. Well anyway, a mast may be bigger and more powerful, but I would guess that the ultimate principle is the same.

There is a huge mast on top of my grammar school, never did any harm to any of the students or teachers for the 10 years myself and my brother have been there between us.

Have a look here. I always got the impression that these things weren't dangerous. Rather the issue was spun out by the media to create a story where there was none.

frankly there's enought things that give you cancer suggested by the Daily Mail who cares.

Bascially everything except the Daily Mail, and David Cameron.

Cameras can also steal your souls.

My folks have one nearby but no one has reported any problems so far with it. The only issue is it messes with the local bats. If you walk around in the dark, they skim your head!

They stole mine.

The typical tower operates at about 25-35 watts. The strength of the field decreases drastically with distance, so while I wouldn't want to stand 3 feet away for months at a time, you're perfectly safe at any reasonable distance. The government agencies that regulate these things are very careful to minimize exposure to dangerous levels of RF energy.

The strength of the RF field you apply directly to your brain while talking on a phone is certainly magnitudes greater than you'll ever get from a tower. I'd much rather sit a hundred feet away from a 100-watt tower than put a 1-watt phone up to my head, but we do it every day. Time will tell if we've been stupid to do so.

We saw some mobile phone masts when we visited some friends a bit further out into the countryside. They looked so much like massive trees, and it was amazing that people don't complain about them when they've just been so easily blended in. They should do the same with wind farms.

The mast by my house is just a big white pole.
