Finck, I may love you. Lovey

Great post.

Does anyone else think that whilst Windows has that - changeable - nice upbeat twinkly startup sound, the OSX one is like "DOOOOOOOOOOOM"? Quite ominous and representative of the usability you're about to experience.

The word processing package on the Mac is p-poor compared to Office too. Macs are good for aspiring film makers but not great for writers.

Why is our newest member called aaron_the_dictator?

This is not good. You provoked me. I ... can't ... figh..t ... Oh no, here it comes.

That fincking Pages bollocks just makes me aggressive. I get the rainbow-coloured beachball of death at the mere hint of scrolling down a page. I have managed to write one twenty page uni paper on it without throwing the whole thing out of the window but that's really it now. I've set up my ancient diy PC for my Master thesis in order not to land myself in prison for manandappleslaughter.

There's not even a short-cut for inserting a footnote, for fincks sake! When there's no short-cut for something in Word you can at least make a makro for it!

I'll stop here and try to breath normally again.

Your first English mistake! macro*

I like the cut of your jib. How old are you, Finck?

That's how I felt when I met the other guy who hated his Mac and was verbally crushed by a Mac forum.

Yeah, sets the right mood from the start. Maybe that's the problem, maybe only people who *get* the start sound are in the right mood to happily use the thing...

I have XP on my PC, and a Mac Powerbook. There are good and bad things about both imo. The range of programs for the PC is far bigger, but I've had less problems with my Mac crashing. And the DOS command line is easier than the Mac one imo. I prefer to use my Mac for video editing (from a camcorder say), I tried it on the PC but it took ages (if it didn't crash first).

I'll use both. Anyone use Linux? If so, how does it compare to XP/Vista?

As to their phones, no idea :)

Doesn't the k make it look a bit more intellectual? No, it doesn't. Thanks for the correction. I'm always afraid of not being corrected. That can't have been my first mistake, though.

I'm too old to still be writing my Master thesis. It is a bit embarrassing.

I use Ubuntu on and off, but always return to XP. It's a good OS. Not great, but good. Much better than OSX in my opinion. Again though, only a fraction of the software is available. Really depends on what your intended computer usage is.

With Aaron about you've nothing to worry about. ;)

That's what I'd heard. I'd like to get away from Microsoft if possible, but I can't see a better option.

Hehe! Don't worry, I'll correct you - that's genuinely the first one I've noticed though.

Hmmm. I'm guessing 25.

The trouble with the mac/pc flame war is that there's little information out there because most people are only really familiar with the one system (which, amazingly, is the one they think best).

MS Word has been available for the Mac since 1984, which is the year that the first mac came out. So it's been available for 25 years on the PC and only 24 years on the Mac.

Interestingly, it was was a windows and wysiwyg app on the Mac when it came out in 1984 while of course it wasn't on the PC because that was DOS.

I'm an equal opportunity hater when it comes to Office: I hate the Mac version and I hate the Windows version. I've never bothered with the native Mac apps, but I'm starting to get used to OpenOffice.

The new iPhone OS 2.0 software has been unlocked and jailbroken. It was released just hours ago and it has already been cracked by the iPhone Dev Team.

Aaron's doing a bit of rain dance? :)

Now that we can agree on! :)

I agree. Used to use Word 4 and 5 back in the late eighties/early nineties, but Office is not friendly or attractive. If you only need a word processor have you tried Nisus?
