Why are carphone warehouse theiving lying bastards?

People automatically love Apple at the moment, because they're perceived to be cool and stylish. Particularly aesthetically, they're extremely over-hyped, and that tends to get them much higher kudos than they deserve. The whole Apple brand itself has been solidly linked into this now, and the often vastly inferior tech specs and disgustingly high prices are ignored.

The Apple fanboys make me ill, but I still maintain that the Web browser on my iPhone is the best implementation available. I've owned many smart phones and PDAs, but I quickly gave up on their browsers. My iPhone has served me well in airports and other on-the-go situations.

I've also gotten rid of my PCs and replaced them with 4 or 5 Macs over the last few years. I just couldn't take any more of the Windows bullshit. The hardware is expensive, but not not exceedingly so when you price out the components. I've seen reviews of other laptops whose price matched the Macbook's once the features were evened out. But everybody wins when Apple's competitors try to meet/beat the Mac's features at a lower price. It's good for the industry as a whole.

Just did a Linux install for the first time in 2 or 3 years. Greatly improved, but still a pain in the ass at times. I wish Microsoft would follow Apple's lead and switch to a Unix-based OS.

Because of their competitive low rates of pay and commission structure.

If your lonely buy a phone from them, you'll forever be getting calls offering upgrades, be lonely no more Rolling eyes

That's interesting. I'm the total opposite. Every time I use a Mac, I fall more in love with Windows. I find OSX to be extremely clunky, bulky, unintuitive and generally slow-feeling. I am serious when I say that I'd go for Windows 3.1 over Mac OSX, if I had to make the choice between one and the other.

*trying to resist but to no avail*

I am in agreement with Aaron here >_<

:D

I think it's good that Apple have turned technical gadgets into fashion items - removed the geekyness of them.

To be honest though, I think there's too many extras in phones that I'll never use. I still hanker after my black Motorola V50 - good looking, fit anywhere, and just a phone. Now almost an antique.

Must admit I rather agree there. Still have my V220 sitting on the corner of my desk. Nice, simple phone. I'm often tempted to go back to it.

Btw - also agree with Aaron over Windows - it's nice to be able to have the control over your OS - OSX is like owning a new car where the engine is a closed box accessed by a computer, Windows is like owning an old MG - you can see all the moving parts and it's easy to fix yourself...

Are you sure you're not talking about Vista? ;)

I reloaded XP on a friend's PC a few weeks ago and I lost track of how many minutes and reboots it took to get current with Windows Update. I just don't have the stomach for it anymore. Last month I carted 2 perfectly good (3GHz or faster processors) PCs off to Goodwill (charity shop) because they were just taking up room in my closet.

Only if you're the type of person who doesn't *want* to know what's going on under the hood. There's plenty of command line goodness inside if you like that kind of thing - and I do.

My biggest complaint is about Apple's tight grip on peripherals. I like to tinker and their hardware is sealed tight as a drum and not easy to modify.

Don't even get me started on that piece of shit.

My girlfriend just bought a cheap Dell desktop. She's a professor and a Mac user by nature, but she needed to be able to run a few Windows apps. The machine came loaded with Vista and she bitched about it since Day One. I thought she was exaggerating until I had a chance to use it myself. What a steaming pile of suck! I'll be bringing an XP CD with me the next time I'm in Florida.

Haven't had any problems with Vista so far - must just be lucky. Doesn't seem too different from XP to be honest.

Aye, good plan. Best thing I did computer-wise in 2007 was to reformat and stick XP back on my laptop after downgrading to Vista.

That's half of the problem. It shouldn't have been a new OS. It should have been XP SP3. It looks a bit nicer in places, but that's about it. Everything else I found to be a downwards step.

The worst about Apple is that the bugs and faults and deficiencies (that undoubtedly exist if you use your computer properly and not just for showing off at Starbucks) are being completely denied by the cult. If you have a problem with something (for example the constant appearance of the rainbow-coloured beachball of death whenever you are near a bit of flash) and try to find a solution online, all you get from Mac forums is remarks like "You just don't understand the concept of a Mac. Cretin."

With Windows everyone expects it to be crap, noone denies it, and there are fixes for every problem imaginable.

I remember how hell froze over in a Mac forum on my daring to ask why one can't turn off the OS start sound ("It's so Mac! How can you not like it?"). I actually had to install a program to stop my Macbook from sending an echoing sound through the library everytime I started it.

I'm sorry for the OT rant, I can't help it. There are bite marks on my Macbook...
