plus my mate has an Iphone and its giving him a headache doing random things.

That's really funny. What like? Perhaps he doesn't know how to use it.

Is that a legitimate upgrade, or will your device stop working when Apple issue the next software update?

It's a legit upgrade via Apple. It'll be officially released tomorrow, but intrepid users have already figured out how to install it early. Official free apps for AIM, MySpace, Facebook, etc. along with games and other apps that you have to buy via the AppStore.

I have always had Nokia's - but that's me :)
Currently I have this one: http://www.nokia.co.uk/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_73966

I have an iphone and wouldnt reccomend it if:

-you wanna use your own ringtones. You can't-the ones on offer are shockingly shite!

Doh! this kinda sucks. I was actually considering upgrading to iPhone whenever it comes our way (some time in August). The other drawbacks mean little to me, but this... I like to distinguish myself in this aspect, so that I can instantly know that it is my phone ringing.

It's strange as iphone was voted gadget of the century, and it doesn't sound that great.

I've decided I'm going to downgrade from my Nokia N73 to just a basic mobile.

They're just crap aren't they? All the features on phones are just inferior imitations of proper stand alone products. Cameras for example. The ones on phones just don't come close to touching a proper digital camera.

On my way in to work this morning, at about 7.50, I walked past three queues of big fools waiting to buy the new iPhone outside various 02s and Carphone Warehouses in the pouring rain. I'm not sure you can make a judgement from that, but I certainly did.

Absolutely!

Q: When is a phone not a phone?

A: When it's being used to record a natural disaster for news footage

I have several custom (non-Apple) ringtones on my iPhone. There are a few applications out there that make it easy to do so.

We'll never see a perfect device, but the iPhone was quite revolutionary. It had a beautiful screen, the first Internet browser that was actually usable, and it lightened users' pockets by combining a phone, PDA and iPod into one device. Best of all, it spurred other manufacturers to leap forward with improved phones of their own.

There were loads of people queuing outside 02 this morning... what's going on?

They've released the new version of the iPhone.

I'm waiting for the next version of the N810 - which will supposedly contain phone functionality - before changing my handset again. Nokia have had some good stuff out over the years.

Oh, and for what it's worth to the OP, my current phone is made by HTC.

Not strange at all. It's the Apple effect. Where was this vote held exactly? Stuff or T3 or something?

Oh I dunno about that. My Dad's N95 does bloody good snaps.

I disagree. I've seen a few models (don't ask me which, as I have an awful memory for version numbers and such) with browsers just as usable as that on the iPhone.

Well it's true that it was the first phone to be a full iPod, but it was years late in terms of phone + PDA + quality music device.

People have far too much money and should give some to me.

TIME. Apple effect?

People automatically love Apple at the moment, because they're perceived to be cool and stylish. Particularly aesthetically, they're extremely over-hyped, and that tends to get them much higher kudos than they deserve. The whole Apple brand itself has been solidly linked into this now, and the often vastly inferior tech specs and disgustingly high prices are ignored.

Check out something like Stuff when you're next in WHSmiths. The last 20 or so pages are comparisons of different contenders in each category (music devices, cameras, TVs, DVD players, etc). Every single issue I've looked at in the past few years consistently has the iPod as the #1 music device, despite the clear superiority of other models in regards to price, size, technical capabilities, and pretty much every other FACTor you care to think up. It's only the looks - which are totally subjective - that it gets by on.

I suppose I concentrated on the negatives in my last post. The iphone is great in terms of internet browsing, the screen, the way in which you can view your photos, having an ipod and it does look pretty!

I think in terms of the iphone, I was guilty of falling for its attractiveness without considering its personality! I'm sure I'll make the same mistake again! I got my iphone the day the last batch came out and there was no queue at all. Then again, it was in Newcastle and it was a dodgy carphone warehouse-thieving, lying bastards!

I used to have a Nokia N93 and the photos on that came out awesome. It also did very good video footage. So good infact it looked DVD quality when I transferred it to my computer.

Thanks for the info regarding the upgrade-I'll do that right away!

Apple's whole business relies on people like you! ;)
