New phone

Just coming to the end of my contract and I can't decide between:

HTC diamond, iphone 3G, samsung tocco or waiting for the samsung i900 (which doesn't have a release date yet, so I might have to scratch this one).

Any advice?

One that rings and you can make calls on.

Maybe even text?

:P

Go for the HTC. A great device.

I900 looks good for the love of god dont get an Iphone.

Ha ha, no seriously, how many megapixels should the camera have? Oh, you're serious - nah no-one uses a phone for talking to people nowadays.

Yeah, am leaning towards it. Only 4 gig though and windows mobile - might be shafted if you get a virus on it.

And I don't Like Apple.

Nah, Windows Mobile is a good OS. Even the most ardent anti-Microsoft people I know admit that. A virus on any device could "shaft" you, and WM is not at any greater risk than any other.

Plus, it'll synchronise your contacts, calendar and whatnot easily with your computer. (Assuming you use Windows.)

What's wrong with 4GB though?

Sounds like you're leaning properly at the moment. Let yourself fall into it. :D

You get 16 gig with the iphone, plus all my music is on itunes...

I can get a much better deal on the diamond which is really leaning me towards it. 4 gig is probably enough for a couple of movies and some (ahemlegallyahem) downloaded choons.

The version of windows mobile on diamond does seem a lot smoother than the old clunky one on the tocco.

But the iphone has a bigger screen. But the diamond has GPS.

I guess it depends on what you expect to use your phone for then, and how often. I'd definitely go with the HTC myself, not a second thought - and the better deal would only solidify that choice for me!

I use WM6 on a palm and couldnt be without it - although prob more for business use where you need to be able to see PDFs, get push email, etc. No need for music as i have a cd player in the car.

Re screen size, you'd be surprised at how little difference it really makes in usability. You see the different dimensions quoted and they sound a lot, but it doesn't really have any effect on the device when you're using it.

Sorry - I think I've landed on a different planet!

I have an iphone and wouldnt reccomend it if:

-you like to take photos. It's very basic with no zoom function.
-you like to film videos. It can't be done.
-You send a lot of texts. It isnt user friendly in this respect.
-you wanna use your own ringtones. You can't-the ones on offer are shockingly shite!

It is a nice handset and great for other things such as web browsing, which is free, and easy to sync contacts, pictures, music etc.

I like apple and that swung it for me in the end-not sure it was the riht decision though!

I dunno anything about the other phones mind.

It's capable of video, but currently only with hacked phones. I assume this will change soon. You can also do ringtones with a little research and work.

I just upgraded my first generation iPhone to the new 2.0 software and I'm somewhat pleased. It's nice to have AIM (free) and GPS mapping that actually works reasonably well.

Is that a legitimate upgrade, or will your device stop working when Apple issue the next software update?
