Of course, Dolly Dagger is also asking about crazes. Does anybody remember the Shinsei Mystery?
It was marketed as a puzzle like Rubik's Cube, but was nothing of the sort. It was two hinged stars which locked together and transformed into a cube. There was no puzzle, and the limited fun available was generated by folding and unfolding the cube into a variety of two (count 'em, TWO) different colours.
It was followed by the weirdly snake-like Shinsei Miracle, which was about as much of a miracle as the Shinsei Mystery was a mystery.
Count Duckula!! Oh how I loved that guy.
