Toddlers who dislike spicy food 'racist' Page 4

Quote: Simon Stratton @ July 9 2008, 11:29 AM BST

What are the acceptable and effective ways to punish a toddler these days? (Seriously)

Smack them.

A smack on the legs is perfectly legal. Only if you bruise, cut, etc are you committing an offence.

I have 4 children (12-2) who all behave perfectly and at 3 years old would have/would politely state that they didn't like dinner if it wasn't to their tastes...they wouldn't have said "Yuk" (not twice anyway!)

Ultimately it's all about conditioning - they all ate home cooked meals as soon as they were on solids....when someones spent an hour doing dinner you eat it - i suppose load of kids today are given some ready meal shit from the freezer and if it sucks they are just given another to shut them up.

On the "new race" rules...while its a joke to have people look out for toddlers saying "those people" etc....it's interesting who raises their kids to say that in the first place!

A situation.
You force the three-year old ungrateful little sod eat the food he refused to eat.

I don't force them to eat anything - this was about their REACTION to food they dont like. I quite understand some food taste horrible, even if someone else likes it...but you don't be rude about it!

We don't have puddings in my house so if the kids want to (politely) leave their dinner they are able to...it's not like they then get to pig out on crap. As such, 99% of the time they eat what their given (which is always yummy anyway)

Ok, I have the political brain of a wet doormouse and even I think this is stupid.
Today my BV teacher told one girl off for writing "BC" instead of "BCE" in an essay. Apparently you must say Before Common Era and Common Era intead of Before Christ and Anno Domini. Dumb? Well the girl who got 10 marks lobbed off her essay certainly thinks so.

My, my Pavlov, what a well behaved dog you have!

Did it not occur to you that, for most children below the age of reason saying 'yuk' or similarly viscerally reacting to food is an inherited genetic response? Ever notice how kids have a few, fairly bland things they like to eat and are very 'fussy' about other things? Thats because in the state of nature eating weird shit is liable to get you killed.

Congratulations on beating your kid's natural response out of them. I'm sure it won't have done any damage a lifetime of therapy won't fix.

nb: incidentally, my child will occasionally say yuck or similarly react to a proferred meal, but can be reasoned with becaue he knows his feelings are valued and respected even when they are disagreed with. In other words: he eats it even if he does think it's yuck, much like a gorwn up would.

Thats mad when I was in school it was before the big J-Man. They were trying to change it over then. But we still had compulsory RE....Or "RS" as it got rebranded.

What does it matter which? as long as you get the date right lol

We had a religious studies teacher who would mark us down if we used the male personal pronoun - he him, his, etc. - to describe God. And she was a nun.

Did you notice the comment left by the Indian bloke, under the article, saying the whole thing was crazy?

That's beautiful. How do your kids find living in a tree house? I suppose they might need therapy as well but every bit helps when our countryside is at threat of motorway construction.

My sister has enough trouble trying to get her 21-month-old son to eat most British food, so he'll no doubt be fussy when it comes to other food as well.

Huh. It's probably worth giving your toddler food from a different country each day just in case they're racist against an obscure country that you don't hear about very often, and it only emerges later when it's too late to do anything about it.

:D

(been watching Tony Robinson's Crime and Punishment).

I was about to ask! :D

Quote: Pete @ July 9 2008, 11:06 AM BST

Do you think its OK for kids to say "yuk" to food that some has spent time and money preparing for them?

Yes.

Quote: Gavin @ July 9 2008, 11:20 AM BST

Suggest they apply for the police force?

I did a laugh.

I believe it's legal to hit, as long as it doesn't leave a mark.

Only an aethesit, or soggy liberal C of E would suggest something so knuckle headed.

Or one of those vile Jewish pigs.

Quote: davidmoreton @ July 9 2008, 1:58 PM BST

hateful twat David Davis.

This should be interesting.

Was that meant to be funny or just offensive?

Quote: Gavin @ July 9 2008, 2:36 PM BST

Pft we used to eat what we got or nothing at all, and sometimes if you weren't quick enough eating what you had you had nothing lol

That's what happens to poor people.

Ahhhhhh, that's what it is! They had BCE on the signs at the Tutankhamun exhibit (went yesterday), and couldn't remember what it stood for. Load of bollocks!

Provocative. :)

Not quite sure what you're getting at here. You're suggesting that I'm uncivilized because I don't hit my children for doing what comes naturally to them? I'm not sayign I let them go feral.. I talk to them. It develops the super-ego's ability to overcome the Id. Whereas hitting them really is treating them like animals.

Ok guys, let's leave it there now please. Both of you have, er, differing attitudes to the same goal; bringing up decent kids. Just be glad that you're both trying, and not letting them run around stabbing people.

Thankee. :)
