Sitcom sample - King of the Road Page 3

Yes he would be good. Ricky Tomlinson also comes to mind.

Simon Day would be perfect. Or how about John Thomson?

I am still going for Rasmus Hardiker as Tom.

THe new boy out of the Inbetweeners for Tom?

James - out of interest, are you trying to get a 'name' on board before presenting to producers? I've never pitched a sitcom but seems a reasonable approach. your sitcom has great legs, in my opinion, BTW.

Some great suggestions there, thank you. I appreciate it.

I'd wondered about John Henshaw, and that lad out of Inbetweeners - I'd never seen him before but he's pretty much exactly as I imagined Tom. Weird!

It'd be nice to have a cast attached to a pitch but I'd have no idea how to approach an actor with a script. But I figure if I can put a suggested casting on the pitch it'll help producers "see" the characters. Will it work? We'll see...

Hmm.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not sure if you send it to an actor they'd take interest - in terms of actors are looking for work, basically, and they need to go with the odds. (To mean, they need to go where the most likely next job will be) Now, if you send them something without production company / network backing they might well think 'No point in getting involved in something which is still on the ground.' Especially if you approach people who are currently 'in' and are working, or are getting lots of solid offers.

Maybe someone will correct me?

I'd have thought that any actor after work would be a bit nuts to associate themselves with a script from a writer with no agent, no previous, no prod company interest....just seems a pointless exercise for the actor (unless they are already establish and do it as a favour to you because you're mates or something) Maybe i'm wrong???

It's because I am a genius lol.

Whistling nnocently

Perhaps attaching a name actor is more typical in the short film/ animation (voices) world. But i don't see why the same principles can't apply. If you were a successful actor and read a script you loved, would you be interested or not? I think i would. however, a simpler way; create a fake e-mail from john.henshaw_1951@hotmail.co.uk writing'I love it etc'. Forward e-mail, with attached script, to Mr Producer, then, assuming a positive response, contact John Henshaw for real to inform of said production company interest. Job done. Pilot filmed. Series commission in the bag. I will give you all the producers' e-mails whom will fool for this for a 5% cut.

Bumped for illustrative purposes.

Geez, this was great. Congratulations, James. :)

Unless the actor has a shit load of influence and he/she could make a show, then yes I would agree sending it to an actor, otherwise it's a rather wasted task.

It must be just me who didn't like this script . . .
