It's not been cut off!
They just want a few scenes instead of the whole thing.
I think it's great, you won't have to wait so long for a response. (Hopefully)

That's true, maybe it's for the better.
I didn't wait a massively long time - maybe 4 months? I don't know if that's normal or not.
I have no idea.
Ideally they call you after one day saying 'I've never read anything so awesome! Come straight in!'
I'm not setting my hopes too high, right...?

They'd say "Och, I've never read anything so awesome. Cannae ya come straight in?"
Goold old Scotchland.
I think it's great news. I have plenty of great ideas and half-finished scripts I can put together.
My problem is, I never finish anything... except chocolate brownies with hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream.
Smeared all over Tennant's naked chest...
Sorry. What were we talking about...?

Writing Zooo, Writing...
I think someone called someone a sausage in General Zooo... you best go sort it out
Quote: Griff @ July 4 2008, 4:51 PM BSTGood old Seefacts, he does like to remind us at every possible occasion about how SHIT all the "normals" are.
But isn't such news inspiring? I'd dread to think there are hundreads of great scripts to be read before they get to mine. Knowing (from feedback like seefacts) that much of what is sent is rubbish is very reassuring.

I will just reiterate that I got told by two producers at two companies that they get sent loads of 'shit'. Their words, not mine.
So Griff, you can bluster about as much as you like, but I'm merely passing on what I've been told.
I don't think the competition to get past the first hurdle is all that hot - it's the stuff after that where things really heat up.
Back to the Comedy Unit. I'm massively thankful to them for showing an interest in my pilot, then, when I took it elsewhere they told me good luck.
Proper lovely people up there.
Quote: Griff @ July 4 2008, 7:08 PM BSTyou're the one who repeatedly likes to point out how "shit" everyone else is.
You make it sound like the accusation is against fellow forum members, i've always read it to mean the majority of those who submit their work to prod co - and have found it reassuring to hear.
I'd have thought the only ones who don't want to hear how easy hurdle one is are those who have been sending their work to producers for many years with no response (and thus worrying they are in that majority) Hardly an issue here were it seems to be mostly new and aspiring writers or the odd one who has done well and so not likely to be worried anyway.
Quote: Griff @ July 4 2008, 7:08 PM BSTI've no doubt you've been told it and I'm sure it's probably true. I'm just observing that of all the writers on here, with all their levels of experience, you're the one who repeatedly likes to point out how "shit" everyone else is.
Not really.
There's been a slew of sitcoms on Critique all of which repeatedly ignored basic and obvious rules, and it's highly frustrating. And I know you'll say 'well, they're beginners' but it seems fundamental things are getting ignored.
Admittedly it'd hard to tell who serious and who isn't now, due to all the weird new posters appearing, but that's another story . . .
Anyway why does MY opinion get up your nose so much? Many people say the same stuff 'not funny enough, not interesting enough' yet it's me who you liked to pounce on.
Why would that be then I wonder?
To be honest your tone can be a little over bearing, and a tad patronising. And frankly I can quickly spot the sitcoms that are windups, and those with a lot of good ideas stuck in inexperience.
Some of us don't make a fuss about it. Some of us love comedy, talking it, writing it, editing it, some times even laughing at it.
Personally I'm as interested in the bad, as the good, they've both got a lot to offer. So patronising, snide remarks about rules, and the basics seems to reflect a rather limited, and unjustified snobbishness.
And what you deride as shit, may well have the next Peepshow contained with in.
More to the point why not share a little of your genius? I mean you must have a little project you abandoned some years ago?
Look it as being like Bono donating a hat.

I'm not like that in real life. I hope. And I don't mean to be either, but if I say 'That's not funny' or whatever (and I shouldn't have to state in big letter THIS MY OPINION, SO DON'T GO 'COMEDY'S OBJECTIVE!!!' because if I'm posting, it's obvious it's merely my opinion. Annnnyway . . . ) it's not close to the rejection they might well get from a producer. As I've said before, I've had a big producer say my work 'didn't make him laugh'. That's life. If you do something creative, and put it out to be judged, then it will be.
If I say something is 'shit' and it's the next Peep Show? Fair enough, I personally think it's unlikely. I've backed someone on here, and he's got some interest in his work, and I'm delighted by that. I back Leevil as well too, but he's bloody lazy . . . And there ARE good writers on here I've said that all along.
Why are people obsessed with seeing MY work? Come August when my two of my sketches (although, it's a runner so only one joke obviously) go out on C4, you can have a little judge then, but not before. All my projects are still in the 'system' so to speak, so they won't be making an appearance any time soon. Sorry.
