It's accepted wisdom that UFOs are for cranks, so anything to do with them is not taken seriously or given due consideration.

Quote: Simon Stratton @ July 3 2008, 3:12 PM BSTBut government are rubbish at covering things up. Especially when they try to, it always leaks out.
Well it's not necessarily government itself. It's "the institution" at large. Whatever secret branches of MI6 or whathaveyou. I don't for a moment believe that any government (as in the Parliamentary gimps) know everything. Plausible deniability is the key.
Quote: chipolata @ July 3 2008, 2:54 PM BSTAnd the idea that governments hush up any alien contact is frankly risible. Governments would fall over themselves to tell us about alien artefacts just to distract us from the lousy job they do in tackling crime and keeping the coast of living down.
Forgive me for saying but that's utter knackers.
The government know exactly what would happen if they let the cat out of the bag. Mass panic.
Quote: DaButt @ July 3 2008, 3:08 PM BSTAs far as I'm concerned, alien visitations are just as real as ghosts, leprechauns and porn stars' breasts.
Your reasoning?
Quote: Perry Nium @ July 3 2008, 3:21 PM BSTForgive me for saying but that's utter knackers.

There wouldn't be mass panic at all (whatever that would entail). We'd all be too busy with Big Brother and Amy Winehouse and Andy Murray's chances at next years Wimbeldon to care about little green men with black eyes.
Quote: Perry Nium @ July 3 2008, 3:23 PM BSTThe government know exactly what would happen if they let the cat out of the bag. Mass panic.
And that's an understatement in itself.
Quote: Perry Nium @ July 3 2008, 3:23 PM BSTYour reasoning?
Absolutely no evidence that can withstand even the most cursory scientific examination.
Quote: Aaron @ July 3 2008, 3:24 PM BSTAnd that's an understatement in itself.
And how would this "mass panic" manifest itself? Seriously, give me a few examples of what would happen when the mass panic in this country?
Quote: Pete @ July 3 2008, 3:18 PM BSTGet a grip - people at NASA are getting hard because they found some trace of water on Mars...you don't think an implant from another planet would make the news a bit more?
Whats really funny is atheist alien believers - they don't want to know about something for which there is countless "witness" statements (a whole book of them in fact!) and billions of other believers yet they're OK with ET!
Maybe thats the plan? Keep attention away from the REAL truth! spooooky!
There's exactly the same amount of hard evidence that God exists as there is for the existence of aliens - none.

The idea of the existence of aliens (not that have 'visited' earth, but just the general existence of life forms not from this planet), makes perfect logical sense.
I don't think that equates to the bible in any way shape or form.

That could be a very funny scene in a scifi film.
President CLinton your country needs. You must hump that fat chick, and then stick a cigar up her Whazoo.
Do I have to smoke it?
President Lincoln would've.
GRAMS The Star Spangled Banner.
Quote: Perry Nium @ July 3 2008, 1:22 PM BSTSo I have a confession to make; I believe in aliens. I had a strange experience as a kiddie and I've been obsessed about UFOs and suchlike ever since.
So what're your thoughts on the subject? Are you open-minded to the possibility of life on other planets / dimensions? Or do you reckon that out of the countless trillions of planets in the Universe, our shitty little insignificant speck of dirt in the arse end of a relatively boring galaxy is the only one that managed to form life?
Some interesting youtube vids here to fuel your thoughts. Not saying they're real - just interesting.

Perry is that a real Alien you're holding? You're not about to torture the poor little blighter?
Quote: Perry Nium @ July 3 2008, 3:28 PM BSTThere's exactly the same amount of hard evidence that God exists as there is for the existence of aliens - none.
Correct - hence anyone saying they saw either God or ET would be regarded as nuts (the fact you were 8 means you were only a nutty child and may well have grown out of it)

It does but it's also a boring and relevant issue - aliens a gazillion light years away that we'll never meet or interact with....yes, maybe - but who cares?
The only real opinion on aliens is they aren't here (as in visiting us, or ever likley to) and they are here (as in, i'm a f**king loon)
Boring and relevant, or boring and irrelevant?
I would like to know which I am being, please!
There are eyewitness accounts, film, photos, possibly other unusual phenomenon related to landings, i.e. radioactivity, ground markings etc, with regard to UFOs. Anything like this when it comes to God?
I really do think you're losing the argument when you start talking about there being no proof of God's existence to try and prove your case for UFO's. They are two completely seperate issues.
Although I would like to apologise if at any point I've made light of Perry being anally probed by an extra-terrestrial panda when he was only 8 years old.

All that was purely in response to Pete's post, bringing god into it in the first place.
