Vigilance. Page 3

We have a problem with some guns, lots of knives, and no protection from either.

The idea you can carry a knife, and not fear the law is ridiculous.

The point is that we don't want either to have a gun.
Really stupid argument.

If you could choose between no one having a gun, or everyone having one, which do you think would make the better choice?

Sorry for repeating your point zooo, didnee see it.

A quick search on the Reading Post website (the first place to look for any of your antisocial or criminal behaviour research) reveals this example:

What's a pole-axe?

And kicking in the goolies.

What did the residents of a small Yorkshire village ever do to you?

Quote: zooo @ July 2 2008, 4:41 PM BST

And 27 go to prison for picking wild flowers.

And this is why our prisons are full.

Not at all stupid, as your example would leave an innocent victim to fend off a violent intruder (possibly still armed with a non-banned weapon) with his/her bare hands. I'd rather not have to challenge some bastard with murderous intent to a fistfight to the death; I'd much rather blow his head off in order to ensure that I walk away unharmed.

S'alright babe.

;)

(Have turned into Frank Butcher.)

Yeah but to anyone with half a brain cell, that argument is obvious bollocks. If everyone had a gun and was panicking and started shooting, how would that have lessened the effects? Some people are just mental.

Why is there no middle ground between guns for all, and guns for people willing to be trained, and evaluated.

I certainly don't say guns for all. But you seem to be implying we should disarm the army as no one can be trusted.

That's where we differ.
I don't want a gun in any circumstance.

Sorry dabutt but I feel you're totally missing the point.
It's a big fat vicious circle. If the guns weren't so readily available in the first place there would be no need to have to protect yourself from one.

Aye - and in doing so, one debases oneself to the level of the first criminal. "I'm going to kill you before you kill me." Such ... maturity.

So, also, you would have to keep it somewhere handy - somewhere for instance your child could find it and think what a great toy it is?

Yes, so let's crank up prison sentences, make prisons less comfortable and friendly. Give people a reason to fear the law.

And that's why peope say that America is culturally bankrupt!

No, nothing wrong with asking people to check them in at the end of the day. I'm not fascist you want me to be, my views on guns is strictly Marxist.

Also as a pole axe is a long weapon, it means to drop striaght down as if from a powerful blow.

You're the one missing the point. Guns aren't carried solely as a response to gun crime, they're the ultimate form of self-defense against *any* violent crime. Ever wonder why the UK has such a problem with home invasions, while they are relatively rare in the U.S.? (Hint: It's because punk-ass burglars here in the States are worried about getting blown to bits by granny with a shotgun.)

That's a bloody good point actually!
You would have to keep it somewhere completely unsafe. You can't just say 'hold on there burglar, just let me find the key in its hiding place and let me unlock my gun from the safe'.

I don't think that someone who commits the crime of stealing deserves to die. You clearly do.
