I'm currently watching, Les Dennis's Liverpool. Quite interesting, it's about Liverpool and the Capital Culture year. I love this city but whats really bugging me is, we've got this Capital of Culture and were spending a lot of money on art displays, new shopping centres etc But where is the development to the places in Liverpool that need it? i.e. Anfield, Kensington, Kirkby. There is new found wealth and the 'big boys' only seem to want to put it in to projects that will make them some more money, while literally a few miles away there are people who are literally living on he breadline. It's crazy.
The money goes into those kinds of projects because they bring in tourists and, although slower, thus has a greater and longer-lasting effect and benefit to the city than just throwing it at the poor.
And why are they poor? Because they're unemployed. New jobs will be created with development projects like those you mentioned.
