Jews & Nazis

Last week I went away with some kids, 11 and 12 year olds, to France as a 'teacher' on a school trip. We went to the Normandy beaches and learnt all about WW2. In the evening, we gave them free time to mess around and play, and they invented a game called Jews and Nazis, where those kids chosen as Nazis had to catch the Jews who had to try and hide from them.

To make it worse, we were staying in a convent with 19 nuns.

I let them play and pretended I didn't know what they were doing.

Am I a bad person? Are the kids bad people? Are the nuns going to pray that we all go to hell?

That. Is. Hilarious.

That's what I thought, so I let them play on, even though I knew I should tell them to just call it Cops & Robbers.

Just as well they didn't re-enact the Night of the Long Knives.

To be honest kids are perverse little blighters. Strictly ban them from passing GCSEs, and insist they bring knives to school.

As it is forcing all kids to watch Schindlers List seemed eminently silly.

That is actually HILARIOUS.

And to answer, no, you're not bad. Kids do these things.

Why am I the only person who finds this, mildly depressing, and not really all that funny.

I swear I saw a parent threatening a kid, with that'll happen to you if you're bad.

At the Imperial War Museum, Holocaust exhibition.

Probably because you're the one who is Jewish.

A statement even more depressing then the one that fired off this thread.

Have a cookie!

The kids just don't appreciate the horror of it. To them, it's goodies and baddies, like cowboys & indians or cops & robbers. I wouldn't blame them for it.

I don't see what's really wrong with it...?

That did happen, it's practically an educational game.

I remember once when I was a kid I picked a penny up off the floor and some other kid said what are you, a Jew?

Now that's depressing.
(Although the kid probably didn't even know what he was saying and was just copying his dad or something. Which is just as depressing.)

What was that?
Sorry, I know nothing. :$

What is it with the myth that Jewish people are obsessed with money?
Has anyone who says this met a Big Brother contestant?

That was Hitler's method of removing his opposition in the Nazi party. He had his opponents systematically murdered on one night.

Oh, right. I knew that. I just thought he was referring to a specific night, hence "Night of Long Knives"

Well he did it all on one night. So it became known as "The Night of the Long Knives."

In South London we know every night as the "Night of the Long Knives."
