"Weird Al" Yankovic

I don't know how many people have heard of Weird Al, because he's not that well known in the UK. For those of you who don't, he's a comic musician (A sort of American Bill Bailey), who is mainly famous for parodies of famous songs. I got a DVD of his music videos the other day and really liked them.

Here are two of his most famous videos:

White and Nerdy - Parody of Ridin' by Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone. His most successful yet to date, reaching number 9 in America.

Amish Paradise - Parody of Gangsters Paradise by Coolio. The song orignally got him into trouble with Coolio, who claimed not to give him permission to make the song.

Didn't he chart over here with "Eat it"?

My 12 year old and his mates are really into him which says to me that Weird Al is really hot with the yoof of today, man.

There's no need insult Bill Bailey. :P

I've not heard of White and Nerdy before, but he does have some brilliant tracks.

Fat by Weird Al (YouTube) is an absolutely amazing parody.

"When I go out to get mer mail ... it measures on the richter scale"

Has Al ever been to Britain?

Didn't he do 'what if God smoked cannabis.'If you really want some funny songs/sketches you should check out SNL's Lazy Sunday, What is love and the Natalie Portman rap. They are all genius.

I always wanted to watch SNL, but watching it on ITV4 it is really bad, I did not see one thing that made me laugh.

haha, amazing.

Oh yeah, that ebay song is so good. Very funny! I'm glad I downloaded it a while ago. I'd like to listen to the other stuff but youtube is still banned here. I dunno, it might be worth buying an album. Would there be enough good tracks on it to make that worthwhile do you think?

I think the SNL stuff is on the NBC website btw.

I like "Weird Al"-especially "The Saga Begins" which is a parody of "Miss American Pie", including lyrics such as "byebye this here Anakin guy, maybe Vader someday later, but now he's just a small fry...""...singing, soon I'm gonna be a jedi!"

I think there was a "gangsta's Paradise" parody called "Amish Paradise" though I haven't heard it.
