I believe for people to view the law, as something fearful, vicious, and random is no bad thing. Armed police, hanging, public flogging, lets make the law something to be feared.
People shouldn't just obey the law, they should actively try and give the impression thats what they're doing.
n.b. life meaning life, means prisons become unmanageably dangerous.

Thats what I meant, even the cheapest food, and worst accomadation costs.
You don't need a TV, or toilet roll in an unmarked grave.

I think that they both are.

Aw. Even, erm... *tries to think of someone bad, but not a cliché like Hitler* ...erm, erm... No, bugger, can't think.
Yes even, erm... him/her!

Ohhhh. Didn't know!

In my prisons, there would be no TV. Certainly not for lifers. Think more Victoriana "horror" stories of incarceration, and you'll be closer to what I'm getting at.
Would they be fed on gruel?
Oliver!
Quote: zooo @ June 18 2008, 7:22 PM BSTWould they be fed on gruel?
Aaron's 'special' gruel.
And made to walk on treadmills, and wear heavy chains.
Aw. Why did he want some more?...
To get to the other side.

Who said anything about feeding them?
Ok if we're all not a fan of the death penalty, how about sacrificing them to our god(s)?
I don't think that zooo would want them.
No objection in principle. There are offenders who never should be returned to society and I do not see much point in spending money keeping them banged up until they die of natural causes. But the risk of hanging the wrong man is too high. particularly as our police are a bunch of tossers.
