The Growing Pains of PC Penrose Page 3

Without a shadow of a doubt - I have all but one of the Rosie episodes and the partnership with Tony Haygarth is far more comedic.

Where did you manage to get hold of copies of 'Rosie'? Looks good anyway, typical Roy Clarke as the titles suggest:
Series 2 episode 2: Wilmot Gets A Bad Case Of Big Cyril's Second Wife
Series 2 episode 3: Wilmot Gets an Even Worse Case of Big Cyril's Second Wife

The Growing Pains of PC Penrose was good but should have been better.

I recorded them from the early days of UKGold when their programme schedulers still had an imagination!

Oh I know what you mean. Never had UKGold, but it did I believe have many 'not often seen' sitcoms such as The Nineteenth Hole, but now it is the same old things on it, 'Only Fools and Horses' 'The Vicar of Dibley'- terrific sitcoms, but seen way too many times. How many times has Little Britain been repeated on BBC3????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yup that one and other rare stuff like Potter, Kit Curran, The Other One, Life Without George, Colin's Sandwich, Seconds Out .. oh loads of stuff

I've seen the opening episode of 'Potter' and it was quite brilliant, really should be out on DVD. Arthur Lowe is definetly my favourite comic actor of all time. The Other One is out on DVD now, never seen it, but love Richard Briers and Esmonde & Lareby so very tempted to give it a go.

I am missing S2 ep 1 of Potter because I recorded it on a DVD recorder that died on me but I have all the other eps. The Other One S2 isn't out on DVD yet and I have that too. Both excellent series and shows that UKGold should be showing now!

I don't think I see it in your list...

Commercial purchases are not listed.

And I'm going to really try hard here not to get into my UKTV rant, so will just say thanks for the recommendation of The Other One. I keep looking at it and wondering if I should buy or not.

I remember The Other One as being problematical. The public were so used to the cuddly Richard Briers of The Good Life that they were not ready for what was in effect an early version of his character from Ever Decreasing Circles, while I believe it was Michael Gambon's first major TV role, and his playing was a little heavy handed. But more than anything else I think the public were not then ready for a series in which the central characters were quite so sad and cringe-inducing. It was perhaps ahead of its time.

Just been watching this series again, for the most part, a very funny show. Would love to see Rosie, its spin-off. Anyone any idea if it is pending a DVD release by any chance?

I've not ever seen a hint of Rosie on commercial DVD, no.
