Not really a quote but this Groucho exchange always amused me:

I don't think he necessarily prohibits silence. If you see silence as part of music then you could fill up every second with silence. Silence with a purpose. Dead space is different to a carefully chosen silence, dead space is letting the silence overcome you through inactiveness.
