The Last Detective

This begins again next week. They're based on Leslie Thomas's Dangerous Davies books which I find really funny.

Again it's more of a Comedy Drama than a sitcom but I'll be watching it.

Never seen it Hun. When is it on?

Thursday 9 o'clock I think. Peter Davidson and that welsh bloke whose name I've forgotten.

Sean...um...Hughes.

Peter Davison is really underrated. I watched him the other week as Dr Who, and I remember when I was a kid thinking 'this is awful'. But I now, with the passage of time, realise that he underplayed it very well, simply because Baker became a operatic performance. And I was also waiting for the Dr to do a crossover where he sticks his hand up a cows bum to defeat the daleks.

I will lookey on out for it then.

The bizarre things about this show is that the first series wasn't shown by ITV for several years because they had so little faith in it. If I remember correctly, it starred Mike from Fools and Horses and he died a long time before it aired. Surprising that it has been such a success after that beginning.

I didn't realise that Nick. I know there was a film made years and years ago which was very British and didn't go down really well. They've changed lots of the situations as they appear in the books but it swtill works well. Not funny ha ha all the time but some very funny moments (I hope).

Is it called the Last Detective because all the other ITV detectives have died?

No - it's because they don't want anymore - ever.

Actually, it's because, in the first episode, he arrested his boss for murder and so from then on, whenever there's a crime, he's the last one they send out.

It's a great show and Peter Davidson and Sean Hughes are wonderful actors.

Ooooo... clever!

I did know that actually - I'm a bit of a Leslie Thomas anorak - or raincoat in this case.

Oh well. I enjoyed it. Not brilliantly funny and not a great original story but an entertaining hour and a half. (Roger Daltrey still can't act though)

I enjoy this too. Never been a fan of Peter Davison but he's good in this role.

I think it's not that good anymore. Shame, but quality leaves the party after a while.
