The logic behind this is?
He's secured the popular vote in the Democratic primaries and he's running against a party that has produced the president with the lowest approval rating in the history of the U.S.A. It's hardly a foregone conclusion either way.
The logic is that he's black.
No doubt one of our overseas members will pop up now and say otherwise, but all of my friends in the US - including those who have supported him - are telling me that a white woman could at least give a good fight, but a black has no chance. Quite simply, America is less sexist than it is racist.
And low approval ratings are irrelevant. Presidential elections are more based on individual personality than party. Ours are party-based, but Blair managed to swing it in 2005. He wasn't quite the most hated PM in history and nor was the party, but they pulled a win because Michael Howard was judged to be even worse than he was. (And more to the point, The Sun told people to vote red again.)

But that's just silly. If America was less sexist than it is racist then Hillary would've won the primaries. Anyway he isn't black, he's of mixed racial origin. I also think the view that America is inherently racist is borne out of ignorance and outdated stereotypes rather than realistic fact. When you consider that Obama has been this successful then it goes someway to proving that America has shed its racist overtones. Effective campaigning could easily see off the 'problems' many Americans associate with Obama's origins.
Obama's success, regardless of whether he becomes the President or not, has been important in uniting the racial tensions that divide America. He has a unique ability to transcend the racial barrier that has often polarised American politics. Really, as citizens of Britain, we should wonder why there hasn't been a similar advancement (on the basis of ability, not race) of ethnic minorities amongst our political system and of women as well. The majority of British people play into this stereotype that Americans are backwards and stupid, but our political system is no better.
Besides if Hillary had become president the most recent four would've been Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton. That's not really an open presidency, more a political dynasty.
And he's a West Ham fan. We need a result, we haven't won anything since the 1980s.

Keep the population stupid and suppressed through poor education and feed them a diet of shit T.V. interspersed with 'Infotainment-style' news and suddenly political control is in the hands of a very select group of people. It's the same thing that happens over here really, just on a much grander scale.
