Good remakes? Page 3

Remake of an old Fatty Arbuckle film. I think it's based on a book, so I don't know if that counts as a remake or - like Tim Burton's shit version of Planet of the Apes - a 're-imagining'.

I do prefer the original Planet of the Apes and I realise that Burtons version is very flawed, but I do think it gets overlooked for the excellent music by Elfman and the brilliant ape work by Rick Baker.

Considering I came out of the cinema initially appalled by what I'd seen, I have re-watched the film quite a few times based on those two points alone.

I also turn off before that abysmal ending :S

The casting was interesting in that one could see how the apes could look down on Mark Wahlberg as an intellectual inferior. Real apes doubtless feel the same.

While we are on the subject, was I the only one who thought Helena Bonham-Carter looked hot?

Laughing out loud

Maybe I'm stupid, but the ending didn't make sense at all.

In no way did I find her attractive, I don't know what you mean......

I agree, despite people trying to explain it to me I'm still none the wiser..

I haven't seen the movie in question, but Helena Bonham-Carter always looks fantabulous.

Hmmm...

Ignore my previous comment then.

I think she's more attractive as a chimp than as a normal human woman. As the latter she's quite an annoying artsy fartsy gothy bint.

:(

She's ridiculous and exaggerated and gothically pretty and...

I can't get my head round it, I find her so wonderful!

Each to their own :D

On the subject of remakes of John Carpenter films, I quite enjoyed the Assault on Precinct 13 rejig a few years back. Not up to the original, obviously, but quite fun. And talking of bad news, I hear they are also going to remake The Fly again. Why, I don't know.

I never got round to watching that, I think its because I love the original so much that I never bothered with the remake.

The upcoming remake of Taking of Pelham 123 is another I'm not keen on seeing, despite the pretty good cast (Washington, Gandolfini, Travolta).

The original with Matthau and Shaw is one of my all time favourite films and I really can't see the need for a re-make. Apparently is was already re-made once as a TV movie anyway, but I've never seen that either.
