Sequels better than the original?

Not just decent sequels, but actually superior.

I used to cite A Shot In the Dark, then someone told me that it was actually filmed before The Pink Panther, but only released after the success of the latter. Which probably doesn't count.

So that just leaves me with Toy Story 2.

Any other suggestions?

Empire Strikes Back was better than Return of the Jedi. Does that count?

Godfather 2 is the one everybody says is better than the original. And a lot prefer Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars.

Personally, I prefer Dawn of the Dead to Night of the Living Dead.

I never been able to sit through a whole Godfather film. Which is weird because I normally love gangster films like that.

I'll have to disagree with with Toy Story 2 there.

My vote and the only one I can think of is Terminator 2: Judgement Day, I love the first one just as much, but T2 has the edge.

I thought the Godfather was overrated. By the time I watched it people had continually assured me it was "The Greatest Film Ever!" and thus it was a spectacular disappointment.

If you expand sequels to include videogames then it is a lot easier. Do you want to include videogames?

I thought Shrek 2 was better than the first one.

I preferred 28 Weeks Later to 28 Days later.

Only if, like Merlin in The once And Future King, you are travelling backwards through time.

And my frenuloplasty was more enjoyable than sitting through Return of the Jedi.

If ever there was a case for ethnic cleansing, it's the Ewoks.

The worst sequel of all time is Weekend at Bernies 2, but let's no got off-topic.

Sorry, the original had the edge in that it made the slightest bit of sense,

How about Aliens? The first was also a fantastic film but was of a completely different genre and not quite as re-watchable as the sequel.

Also Star Trek: Wrath of Khan and possibly Evil Dead 2.

Oh, and Superman 2.

In a similar vein, the second series of The IT Crowd was much better than the first.

:O

Really? I thought it was far worse myself. I though the first one was much funnier

I'd go for Waynes World 2 being better than the first one. Although I love them both still...always held out hope for a third one, guess that ship has sailed now though :(
