No, I haven't had the misfortune.

Well, not having seen it, you shouldn't make the assumption it would be unpleasant.

It has Russell Brand in it. That's enough for me.
Ah, I feel the same way!

Seemingly for the opposite reason though.
Gus, I really don't like Brand either - but he was good in The Abbey.

Ah, if I ever see it repeated, I might give it a go. Might.
Knowing me, I'd probably record in June, for instance, and finally watch around Christmas when the only things that are on are "The Wizard of Oz" for the umpteenth time and "Annie"
I've watched this film (and the sequel) this week and thoroughly enjoyed both. I've not read back through every page on this thread, to refresh myself of all points, but my initial pessimism certainly wasn't proven!
There's an element - the kind of radical nature of it being about powerful women - that the new films lack over the original series, but that's only in contemporaneous review due to the fact that women in society aren't nearly as subjugated as was the case 60 years ago.
Otherwise, for me both new films (particularly the first, I think) really captured the spirit of Launder and Gilliat's series, striking a near perfect tone and setting in 21st Century society. They hark back just enough to not completely separate themselves from or be untrue to the originals, whilst not dating it as something obviously rooted in the 1950s.
And, crucially, both had a lot of laughs. More than many supposed sitcoms!
A third film in the revived franchise is now supposedly in production, which I'll be looking forward to seeing if it does come to fruition.
They're cheery enough if you like that sort of thing.
But not being about powerful women? Are you sure?
The early St Trinians films were all about strong women.
I do think the older ones were much more of that era and more enjoyable for it.
I'm not sure you actually read my post, sooty. Certainly not properly.
Ah I see, that's the trouble with the old felxible use of negatives.

And buxom tarty 50s models in gymslips and suspenders.
All the remakes are dire and all trace of them should be incinerated ASAP
