An unsolicited script is a script that does not come via an agent, isn't it?
Unsolicited?
Or just wasn't requested. A competition script is not an unsolicited script I think.
i have no agent and find that the production companies that except unsolicited material are few and far between. any advice?

Yeah, uninvited basically.
If you ask them nicely, and they ask to see it, then it becomes solicited.
Write an enquiry letter/email or better still ring up and ask if you can send it in and who to address it to.
Keep writing, take every opportunity, send stuff to the people who accept stuff, and keep upping your game.
It can take years, and enter everything! You might not win, but you may get noticed.

The issue with that is they'll palm it off to a secretary, and they'll palm it off into the bin.
iv'e just gone from the writers yearbook and not come up with many
Watch TV, see the name of companies you like and google them. Then phone and ask.
The barriers you have to pass are pretty harsh. Producing a pilot is a big expense, that has to be justified.

I bow to your superior knowledge old bean. Great influences in the interview by the way, not ofthen you hear people mention Grant and Naylor. Have you read the books?
i leaning toward comedy films. the main production companies don't want to know unless ure in the comedy click already, even though their stuff may be shite. there is nothing worse than sending your material to the companys behind LITTLE MISS JOCELYN and TITTYBANG BANG and being told it is not funny.

Well, that's how I see it. It's happened to me before, it's very insulting. So when I get a name I Google them and make sure they're somebody.
There's a luck element. Some companies have a handful of script readers, who err read scripts, and have phone numbers, and can be reached and chatted to, and maybe persuaded to read 10 pages of your script.
Many don't have any script readers, and hire writers, in the same Bernard Mathews hires turkey slaughter men.
Research, write and keep going for it.
n.b. no one here is going to tell you about prod companies they use, as they will be inundated with scripts, and not grateful.
BBC writers room will eventually read your script. The BBC also has open talent contests about twice a year. A prod company that will read your script may take upto 6 months.
