Once Upon a time when I was in Uni I knew one of my house mates asked me to drive her mate to Welshpool, so its about a 4 hour drive from Cardiff.

What he put on was f**king insane thrash Speed metal. I listen to it for like 5 minutes, before I couldn't bare it. I turned the CD off and tuned in the radio and he was really pissed off.
I can't remember what DJ was on but he starts piping up "F**king English twat tune into something else." So I say, uh why don't you like him music will start in a minute.
He the proceeds to tell me that the English are scum and oppress the Welsh taking our jobs, how he goes to meetings and a bunch of them plan burning farm patches van yards.
And I say f**k man you cant go around doing that! and he looked at me dumbfounded, and was like seriously man what the f**k is wrong with you? He passionately hated all English people so I dropped him off and told him to hitch or catch a train.
Crikey, I lived off the M4 for years and always saw signs telling me how far it was to Cardiff but soooo glad I always turned off at junction 8/9 to go to Maidenhead!

Always a few nutters around - only 2 places in Wales I have been - Newport, played a gig there and saw NOTHING of the town and Portmeirion/Betys-y-Coed with some colleagues from work. It was very useful as I got a lot of my passwords from welsh names

Hahahahahahahahah! Classic! Some people really are deluded. The worst case of racism I've ever seen/experienced was a tourguide on one of those open top bus dealies in Edinburgh. The guy's deluded OAP anti-English rant would have shocked Hitler. And I mean that quite literally. It's quite worrying how some people have got it into their heads that the people of England hate them and whatnot. I really do pity such delusion.

It seems they are totally unaware how ambivalent we are to it all. If we hated them back just as much perhaps the whole thing might go away?

No it's just pathetic, some of the stuff he came out with like how the English in the dark ages wouldnt give us toilet technology so we had to go in hedges.
And that we should drive them back over the border and claim independance. To which I said, how would we support an economy we don't produce anything.

Precisely! They really believe that English people consider themselves superior to them, and that they (the English) believe that they own and control them (the Scottish/Welsh/etc), but do we even think about it like that? I'd never even considered it until this guy started going on about how the English were scum and blah blah. Like I say, it's really sad and pitiful. Pretty much like the whole Muslim thing really. They get sucked in with stories by people they associate with, and look up to. All the 'west' has against Islam is that some people are using it as justification to blow things up!

I always remember the story of the uprising in the early 15th Century (IIRC), when a small Welsh 'army' enlisted the help of the French military to drive out and supress the naughty English.

You made the subject broader there and with this point I cannot agree. America has killed more innocent people since the end of WWII than any other country and supported Israel which causes anti-western feelings and breeds the "Any friend of America is an enemy of mine" mantra
