What case?

I don't know.
I think he's being complimentary though.

Good sketch he links too anyway. Big fat smelly cocks.

But I have said it several times on other threads. The modern sketch show seems like money for old rope compared to the likes of Big Train and Not the Nine O'clock news etc.

Nowadays it's 6 ideas stretched wafer thin over 6 weeks, nice work if you can get it.

Compare and contrast this if you will with BT and NTNOCN who maybe had to come up with 50-60 different ideas per series run.

It's frankly due to budget. Sketch shows are relatively expensive to make. Sketch shows that don't use recurrent sets and characters are notoriously expensive to make. And budgets are becoming ever tighter in TV.

I don't really understand why large budget = funny. I think it was on the Mr. Show DVD commentary when the point was made that the cheaper the sets and the more crappy the costumes (I think they mentioned using black tape to create moustaches and beards at one point) the better the response they got to their sketches. I'd personally like to see less emphasis on the slickness of presentation and more on the writing and performing.

Bo.

Well, that may be. All I'm saying is that all the really great sketch shows cost a lot, historically.

I agree, I think it forces them to be more creative. Kids in the Hall for example were funniest when they just went out on location and shot random skits wherever they could. It was still funny when they got some money (and when Lauren Michaels) started producing it but I think their chops had been sharpened before to allow them to make good skits when they did have a bigger budget.
I think the same could be said about Python.

It doesnt, but TV channels want a glossy end product, in general, not something that looks cheap or thrown together. Thats why theyre more reluctant to do something like Big Train, because they think to get that high end, glossy finish theyre going to have to spend a crap load of money.

Please help. I need to find UK subs for Big Train but I can't seem find anywhere!

Okay yeah, thanks, but I really want to find real English language .srt subtitles for the English BBC series "Big Train". Thanks!

I'm not sure if subtitles are produced for sketch shows that often, are they?

Sorry - I see you meant ENGLISH. That's what most of the UK people speak.
