How do they film an audience sitcom? Page 4

Never been to see a sitcom filmed, I don't know if I'd want to considering the amount of time it takes. I have been to see Ruddy Hell It's Harry and Paul, which was great as it had two of my favourite comedians in AND Big Suze from Peep Show. Also went to a recording of Mock The Week which literally had me in tears it was so good.

Unless you go to an extended special, they're really no longer than the other shows mentioned.

And it sounds like you went to Ruddy Hell! It's Harry and Paul on the same night as I did. :)

Ah lucky you. I'm always having to rush back for a bloody train! Ryan is great though, isn't he? :)

I'm lucky that my uni is in Kingston and so I'm not too far from Teddington plus the person I was with gave me a lift home though they weren't best pleased to wait in the caf while I got autographs.

I have to admit, I was quite chuffed to meet Ryan and chat to him and get his autograph considering that he not as famous as Nicholas Lyndhurst, Celia Imrie and Dani Harmer but I repeat *HE'S TINY!*

BTW, Amanda Abbington is heavily pregnant but unfortunately they didn't include that in the script so it was a lot of upper body shots plus the minor storyline that was alot funnier than it actually was because of this.

Ah right, maybe it won't be too bad then.

Haha nice, were you at the one where they filmed the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs sketch that took a ridiculous amount of takes?

He is more famouser than Dani Harmer.
He's been in Doctor Whooooo!

Ooo, was Martin Freeman there then?

Yep, that's the bitch. Wouldn't have been so bad if it had been funny, but heyho!

First night, I think that was.

I don't think he was but to be honest, I was more fixated at the people performing and the pretty sets than who was in the audience. I find it strange that they've gone back to Teddington and also Pinewood for two episodes rather than BBC TV Centre as I thought it would been easier for both the actors and audience to access. Limited Studio space perhaps?

But he's not as famous as David Tennant and Catherine Tate. :D
BTW zooo have you heard the commentary for The Poison Sky with Ryan, Catherine and Julie Gardner? They're very funny especially Ryan and Catherine.

No I haven't actually, someone (Charly?) mentioned it before. I wannit!

I have a feeling it's on a certain video website or alternatively just type 'Ryan Sampson commentary' and click on one of the links. it is the episode The Poison Sky.

I heart you, Jonwo.

Aw Shucks, always happy to help a forum member who has a small crush on The Tennant and Ryan Sampson even though I think Ryan may be gay* making your crush slightly pointless :P

*I'm only guessing so I can't be sued for libel!

He was straight until he met Tennant. ;)

No, that excites her even more.

I think it's just availability. The first series was at Pinewood (IIRC), the second was TV Centre, and this third is mostly Teddington. The studios are so big it's just a question of what can be booked on the dates required, I believe!

You may be right, I always thought that a show booked a studio and then stayed there for x amount of series. Shows like Graham Norton, Mock the Week and Paul O'Grady have always been at the same studio but I guess that they probably have set dates in advance.

It is quite fascinating watching the actors react to the studio audience and having to do scenes or pick up shots again especially if it involves food :P

Anyone encountered any cock ups by the actors while being in an audience?

Yeah, really depends on the show and the producers. Obviously the sooner the producer is booking studio time, the better range of choices they have!

I've seen Paul O'Grady advertised at both TV Centre and The London Studios though.

Infinite!

Actually I was suprised at how few mistakes the cast made, at the Two Pints recording I saw...Some of the best bits were the jokes only the audience were aware of.

In one particular scene, Janet had to lick Johnny's fingers through a letterbox (Don't ask!)...and Ralph Little had been pointing out to the audience that due to the heat of the lights, he'd got a bit itchy and felt the need to have a scratch...so of course at the point it's filmed the look Janet gives to camera is priceless...I'll stop waffling now :D
