I don't know if this is a joke or not?

Blimey. Do I have to put a smiley on everything?

I really do feel sorry for blokes having no say in this. Of course I understand why it's left to the woman, but it's still terrible that a bloke has to wait for someone else to decide whether his (potential?) child lives or dies, and it is afterall his child as well.

Really? i see it a little simpler than that. In fact, Bill Hicks had point when he said he'd wiped entire civilisations of his belly with an old gym sock!

The mother grows the baby and that process is SO far removed from anything the man has done that i'd say a man has very little rights at that stage...he's donate a single sperm, big deal.

should add - i suppose its a bit different if there's a relationship going on....i'm talking about the sort of "turn up on your door step and announce it" type situation.

Please stop this thread now. I hate Aaron for this.

Graham, we're not going to close this thread.

Everyone here appreciates it's a sensitive subject, but that's not a good enough reason to close it. I think Graham appreciates that.

You all have a right to express your thoughts here, and you can carry on posting here regarding this topic.

Except Cornforth.

That sounds a little too simplistic, IMHO, as the DNA contained in the sperm will dictate so many things about the life that will be created. The fact that the mother has the capability to develop the child inside her body is critical but is not everything.

Yeah, this is all true, but the father's then expected to pay up once unwanted sprog pops out.

If the will of the father regarding the child was taken into account by whatever the CSA of the day is, then yeah. But otherwise, there's a bit more to it.

Well you could always keep bits of her hair.

With the new embryology bill, extract the DNA. Add some of your own, and hey presto you've got your own cloned sprog.

Well, I meant basically in anything that wasn't a one night stand.
I do agree with what you're saying though - I did point out that I understand the reasons for it being the woman's decision - all I was saying was that it makes me feel sorry for the bloke. Really, it must be tough for him too.

this is where nature doesnt work in 2008 - we should be able to "turn off" reproduction when people are kids then you apply for a licence to have it switched on when you can show you can pay for it and want it.

while i agree absent FATHERS should pay up i fell less inclined to force the sperm donor in a one night stand to pay up. if you're a woman, be aware the implications of a baby are a zillion times worse than for the man - equality to one side, that's life.

If i walk away from my 4 kids now then i except i'll be broke till i'm dead - but if we had split up when we were expecting our first, just out of our teens....i'd be pissed at having to pay for a child that (if we had split) i'd terminate in a second.

My Favourite Topic.

Okay abortion should be lowered to 16 weeks, unless their is a danger to the mother or the baby has a severe disability.

As for Embryology I believe that should be taken as far as science can. To help with fertility problems, help save the life of a sibling or any human being etc.

As long as the embryo is no more than 21 days old.

You knows your specifics!

I don't know anything about details. But as an extremely broad uneducated view, I would think that if the baby could survive by itself after being removed from the woman in question, then it's too late.

Agreed.
Most hospitals refuse to do an abortion after 16 weeks anyway. Unless for the reasons I quoted above. The women have to go to private clinics.
There are very very few Gynacologists training now, as they are scared they may have to perform late abortions.
Give it a few years & my only remaining 2 year joy (The smear) will be redundant. There will be no gynies left to do it. :( :(
