A great decision, I think. I loved Moving Wallpaper but couldn't stand to watch Echo Beach.

Agree. Echo Beach was a nice idea I think but ultimately a waste of time. It was neither use not ornament.

I never actually could bring myself to watch Echo Beach itself, but YAY! :D

Anytime a soap opera goes down the pan, you've got to celebrate.

I'm too lazy to read the news item - Moving Wallpaper is axed as well I take it?

Apart from Doctors that has some great stand alone stories sometimes. A bit like a play for today for... well today.

:)

Thankfully, no.

Super duper, ripper chipper, ace, triff & brill ... I liked MW :)

It was good to see TV experimenting; but really Echo Beach was a dud and deserved axing, just as much as Moving Wallpaper deserved to be commisioned for a new run. Interested to see how it deals with the soaps axe; will there be as much reference to the show theyre supposed to be working on, or appearances from the cast?

EDIT:

Ah, just actually read the article now, where it says this :

When Moving Wallpaper returns for a second series, though, scenes from Echo Beach will be incorporated within it.

So thats me told.

I've haven't seen it, but it does seem to me that soap elements have infiltrated most drama these days. Shows that in previous years might have concentrated on their subject matter, now have a big injection of soap opera into them. Even Doctor Who. The rise of the soap has got a lot to answer for.

Denouncing soap-opera is ludicrous. Care anyone name a better written long running television show in the UK than Coronation Street? The balance between light and shade is hit perfectly, and it's also accurate to say that it is funnier than 90% of situation comedy in the UK also.

LOL

Not if someone doesnt happen to like soap operas; up to them surely? I can take them or leave them; I used to watch a few but I cant be arsed anymore. Never short of a forcefully voiced opinion are you Trendy?
:D ;)

Oooh let me guess MTC ... you work in soap, right ?

Irrelevant. Yes, Echo Beach was abysmal (for a myriad of reasons), but blaming soaps for all that is wrong with television is nonsense.

I watch Neigbours religiously. I tape them all on SKyplus then watch them on a Sunday.

Most writers, directors, producers at Granada who were involved in situation comedy were also involved in Coronation Street. Jack Rosenthal is probably the most famous example. Corrie goes through some woeful periods but I have to agree that the elements of comedy in it are the reason I watch it.
