Trying to write a script

Hello everyone,

I'm a member since a few weeks , and I am trying to write a script for one episode of a sitcom. Every thought or idea I get , i'm writing it down so I can remember it.
I want to write one episode of a existing sitcom (guess which one)!

I am looking for an example of a script , an episode of an existing sitcom , so I can see how a script in English is build up , what words to use (I am Dutch , so sometimes it's not always easy for me).

I want to put all the things and words , jokes and everything into a nicely build script. Can anybody help me a bit further?

It really is not for producers or anything to look at , not yet anyway , maybe it will come to that , I truly hope so.

Maybe there are some people that would like to help me with tips and that.

They are (apparently) official BBC shooting scripts so are probably good ones to follow.

Don't mean to sound negative, but there's little point in writing an episode of an existing sitcom unless you're been commissioned to. Is you're using it as a writing exercise that's fine, but it sounds as though you wish to submit it at some stage. Unless you've already got some status as a comedy writer they are unlikely to read it as they wouldn't want to take the risk of you taking legal action should they produce a plot similar to yours.

Best to work on something original if you're starting out.

He might be writing a spec. Isn't that when writers write something for an existing tv show to show off their writing?

I wish , no no just another amateur trying to make something of his life .
I am just writing this asa an exercise , if that result will be satisfactory I would like to write something in future , something of my own of course.

But this will be a really serious exercise , just to pick up soem practice.

It seems a waste of time Earlydoor, no one will even read it as they can be accused of nicking your ideas. Write a brand new idea

No, it could be a good idea; Ive heard the Writersroom like to recieve scripts like that; it shows a certain level of skill if you can write well for an existing show.

As I understand, it's okay to 'showcase' your writing skills by penning an episode of an existing show as long as you are trying to impress the producer of a different show.

That's not what it says on the Writer's Room website:

It's a great idea for an exercise Mister Door. However if the show you are thinking about is Early Doors, you might do well to pick another one. Early Doors has a very strong voice, the characters speak extremely naturalistically -which is where much of the humour comes from. I hesitate to use the word nuance but it might as a Johnny foreigner, i love the Dutch, be easier to go for more of a plot led sitcom.

In a sense I agree with Dan, but on the other hand I would get in to the comedy writing world but keep this on the side so that when you are in a position to have something taken seriously you will already have something to show.

That is what Im doing anyway.
