About the UEFA Cup Final Fiasco

I've just been watching some clips of the mad scenes from the other night, in Manchester, on Youtube. Unbelievably, some Rangers fans have come up with the theory that most of the people attacking the Police were English - even though the T.V. clips show that the majority of them were wearing Rangers shirts, and had Glasgow accents.

Unfortunately they learnt this trick from the English when we were the top dogs in football violence. My main worry is the knock on effect next week when two English teams play in Moscow.

It is, quite frankly, disgusting. It's people like that that give not only sport and sports fans a bad name, but whole cultures and aspects of society. Scum, the lot them.

There would probably have been less trouble if the Rangers supporters had their "refreshments" restricted to a diet of cucumber sandwiches and tea. Those willing to attend at Manchester under such onerous conditions could have chartered a Lambretta.

Laughing out loud Very well put, Geoff, and welcome to the BSG! :D

I don't know how this would be put into place but something has to be done about fans without tickets arriving en masse.

Apparantly there was close to 200,000 Rangers fans going to Manchester even though only around 20,000 had tickets.

I am at Uni at the moment but speaking to friends they say that the day after Manchester looked like it had been hit by a bomb.

Rangers should have put some big screens up at Ibrox and sold tickets/food/refreshments and let everyone in to enjoy the game together at their own stadium, to avoid having large numbers of fans travelling down to Manchester ticketless. Would have made them a bit of income too.

Alright, it wouldn't have accommodated all of them, but I think that 60,000 people kept away from Manchester would have certainly cut down the problems.

It's something ManYoo and Chelsea should be doing too come Wednesday night.

I think you will find the Russian police have a whole different view on how to handle football supporters intent on causing trouble. I also heard that if you don't have a ticket then you can't get in the country but I may be wrong.

What is all that Rangers violance stuff about anyway?

I think you will find the Russian police have a whole different realistic view on how to handle football supporters intent on causing trouble. I also heard that if you don't have a ticket then you can't get in the country but I may be wrong.

Yeah, but the English can't stop the Scottish coming into the country, can they?

Dan

Hadrian did pretty well.

Hadrian did pretty well.

He wasn't English though.

No, I didn't say he was. Managed to keep the Scots at bay for a while though.

Rangers fans have had a bad reputation in Scotland for years. In fact, I've often heard fans of other Scottish teams refer to them as "The Orcs", for the way they "invade" cities, and cause havoc.

By the way, I think there was a screen at Ibrox. The reason so many ticketless fans travelled down to Manchester, was because most of them hoped they'd be able to buy a ticket from a tout, outside the ground.
