Worst acted Sitcom character

Here's a challenge for you. I'll set the target and you have to raise the bar.

For me, the worst acted sitcom character is ........ <Drumroll> .......

Darren from The Royal Family. The guy is absolutely hopeless. In a show that is so natural and laid back and superbly acted, he's abysmal. He constantly looks like he's waiting for a cue. He can manage "Yes, "No" and "Dunno" convincingly and everything else is awful.

Discuss.

Is that Ralf Little's best friend?
If so, I believe I agree.

Although, he is supposed to be an annoying dimwit, so I'm not sure if he's an idiot or a genius.

Going back a bit here (early eighties) but a young Jim Davidson in 'Up the Elephant and round the Castle' comes to mind. No BAFTA for his efforts on the acting front that's for sure.

Maybe the fact that I think the guy is a twat is influencing my decision.

Am I showing my age?

No, I believe people of all ages think he's a twat.

Another great question. Not that I can think of an answer of course, but a great question.

Actually, thinking about it, David Brent. For me, the character never really 'worked'. Always had the emphasis in the wrong places (and yes, to a certain extent that's where the humour was supposedly drawn from). I think Ricky Gervais is really very much like David Brent though, so that of course has implications to the portrayal of the character. One would think that it'd make the character more believable though.

Aaron!
You've got to let the Ricky hate go!
:)
I think he's a great actor as Brent, even better than as Millman. But my only criticism with that role is he does the rolling-his-eyes-disbelievingly thing about twice as much as he should.

I suppose you're allowed opinions of your own though. If you must...

Actually, that's reminded me; Vince Noir. Painful. Just utterly, utterly painful.

:D
Come on, he's better than Naboo...

Ha ha ha, very good. I think his bad acting is part of the charm. The way he always looks like he's trying not to laugh all the time.

Edit - That comment was about Vince, Naboo is terrible.

Wellll, I dunno. I'm not sure the portrayal of Naboo is so much bad as the character is in the first place?

I refuse to discuss this further.
Everything in The Boosh is perfect, la la la...
*fingers in ears*

Except the comedy, the writing, the acting... :P ;)

*Shouts Aaron's sig at him*

Back to the matter at hand, I've thought of another one: the bloke who played Sophie's dad on Peep Show last week. A bit rubbish.

I'm normally happy to let everyone have their opinion, it's their right after all, but if you are seriously suggesting that David Brent is poorly acted, then I'm going to have to seriously suggest that you are the stupidest person alive!!

That's a bit unfair - Aaron is a highly intellectual individual with impeccable comedic taste second to none. And besides, as far as I am aware Jade Goody is still breathing so that makes him at least in second spot!

;oP
