What would you do? Page 2

Pyramid scheme? They seem to work for my friend...sorry let me rephrase that...they seem to work on my friend. He's not very bright.

Treat this like an agony aunt thread. If you have a problem let the good people of BSG help solve it. Could be serious or not-so-serious so dress up as Katie Boyle and look compassionate.

My problem(s)

I hate my job. Unfortunately I am overpaid for what I do so matching my salary is virtually impossible in this neck of the woods. I can't afford to take a pay cut right now. I'm restricted where I work anyway because I can't drive for medical reasons and have to rely on public transport.

I want to move from the area as I'm sick of the place but my wife and kids don't want to. I am effectively supporting all five of us and we have constant money problems.

In the late 90s I ran four marathons in five years but now I'm over 15 stone and generally pissed off.

What would you do Auntie BSG? If nothing else, make me laugh. :)

You might just be sick of the area you live because you can't stand your job. Often when you hate your job you try to blame something else, or try to run away from the situation. If you had a great job, would you still want to leave your home? If not, its time to look for a new job. Perhaps you could work for yourself? If your wife was able to work, perhaps she could do some paid community work - become a teaching assistant or youth worker or social worker or something. As it would help you, in that you could take another job and the pay cut wouldn't be so bad.
The best thing you can do is talk to her about how you feel. Perhaps she will offer to work to help you?

Quit your job and start doing community work, preferably at the same place your wife does. But do it better.

On a slightly serious note it sounds like your wife is being selfish(although we only have your account of things of course.) Point out that she is failing her responsibilities as a Wife and Mother. She appears to be putting the community before her family.

Failing all that just goe out and hire a prossie. :)

It sounds a bit like you're making all the money, but not allowed to make any of the decisions.
Which is a trifle unfair!

That sounds very familiar.

What I would do is write about the whole thing and try to see th funny side as a sitcom. Then look at writing for a magazine of your favourite hobby - Wankers Weekly or something (sorry - not being personal) and then just hope.

My advise, don't phrase it like that though!

My wife and a job is a bit of a sore point. She does a lot of community work which is admirable but it doesn't pay. It somehow doesn't feel right asking someone to give up what she enjoys doing and is for the benefit of the community for the sake of a few quid.
...
The job thing has caused arguments but I can't force her to get a job. It's things like child care but if she did a couple of evening shifts it would make a big difference.

Maybe she could start by just charging every other punter.

Sounds to me that marrying Heather Mills was a mistake ;)

When I first started to read your post it sounded like we were in similar circumstances. I too have a job that pays well but is unfullfilling. I too am now unfortunately disabled so my future job prospects are limited!

I unlike you however, ensure that my wife gets up every morning and goes out to earn her share! This (if not already) will eat away at you, whilst you remain in an unfullfilling job that pays the bills, your wife continues to enhance her inner soul with all this charity work without earning a penny.

Your're gonna have to bite the bullet and have a quiet word with her. How you manage that depends on what value you place upon keeping the family unit entact.

Best of luck. :)
