Champions League doesn't count unless you've actually won your league.
All you've got to do is win the right half dozen or so games - unlike winning the league.

Well, Man United finished second the season before they won in 1999 so that scrubs that out too.
'Doesn't count' doesn't really wash though as a CL campaign is 13 games plus against some of the best in Europe which means it doesn't include the likes of Derby or Fulham.
The competition also features 32 at the group stage as opposed to 20 in the Premiership. I know you wouldn't expect to play more than 7 different teams a season but look at some of the teams Liverpool have faced in 2005, 2007 and 2008:
Juventus, Chelsea, AC Milan, Barcelona, Porto, Marseille, Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Monaco all of whom have reached at least the semis of of the CL.

It's easy to raise your game every couple of weeks though. They haven't been able to sustain a campaign since the early 90s.
