Ross Noble gag.

I watched a dvd with my gf last night. It was Ross Noble Live that she'd bought for my birthday. I wasn't too keen on him but I had to laugh; no really - I HAD to laugh.

I'm not sure how to critique this exactly. Is it radio/TV/stand up?

It's bathos

No. It's a play on the word 'had'!

ok, let me explain. I "had" to laugh. I was being diplomatic, in order to keep the peace as I don't find RN very funny. GEDDIT.?

yes thats an example of bathetic humour, one of my favoured forms.

I get it, but I think it would be funnier if the 'HAD' was emphasised by more than just you trying to keep the peace.

For example, if it ended, "no really - she had a gun, I HAD to laugh."

But then it's not a joke about Ross Noble.!!! >_<

Ross Noble is no joke.

Yes it is. Ross Noble is so bad it took the threat of a gun to make you laugh at his DVD?

I honestly didn't know this was a joke, hence why I moved it to general in the first place.

I didn't get it, and I just don't see the joke. I still read it as an observation of a Ross Noble DVD you watched :S

On reflection you are right Smithy, the joke still stands. Well at least you got it. Paul W, sorry I can't explain it any further. Try and imagine the "HAD" stressed by italics. If that doesn't work try a head transplant.

I think the problem is that it's not a terribly good joke. Or rather, it's a terrible joke!

It is kind of weak.

Dik reminds me of Jerf Roberwitz.
