The World's Greatest Comedy Characters

There's another 'list show' on Channel 4 this Saturday night (despite the fact C4' Kevin Lygo said the channel was going to stop milking the format).

Anyway, in The World's Greatest Comedy Characters (9pm - 12:05am) "the funniest comedy creations of the past 50 years are celebrated". Compiled by the British public, a panel of industry experts and other critics the results will include classic characters from such vintage comedies as Porridge and Dad's Army as well as various modern conceptions from the likes of Green Wing and The Office too. Exclusive contributors include Terry Jones, Catherine Tate, Leslie Nielsen, Andrew Sachs, Richard Wilson, Ardal O'Hanlon and Eddie Izzard.

The list of potential nominees can still be seen on the official website if you want some clues. It's bound to be a bit bias towards Channel 4 comedies but will probably still be quite fun and interesting.

So anyone want to predict the top 5/10? Once the show has gone out this will be the place to discuss the results too and whine about the inevitable bad choices and omissions...

Hmm, let me guess...

1. Basil Fawlty.

No, it'll probably be someone off Little Britain.
:(

Homer Simpson and Del boy will be there somewhere

Of course!

But I'll vote for Homer Simpson.

Off the top of my head...

1. Homer Simpson
2. Alan Partridge
3. Basil Fawlty
4. George Costanza
5. Larry David

1. basil
2. del boy
3. alan partridge
4. fletcher in porridge
5. arkwright
6. tommy from early doors
(i know a lot of these won't make the list but these are my choices)

Is the voice over Simon Pegg?

Waht's happening with the 2nd series of my name is Earl? It's been quiet.....

Yes it sounds like Simon Pegg

I can remember voting on this list, and I don't remember Guy Secretan being one of the characters you could vote for.

So, who won?

Leevil got it right, the smug bugger.

Wasn't Delboy only about number 18 which is bizarre. Also no place for Reginald Perrin that I saw.

Fix! No Homer Simpson in the Top 50. In fact there were no cartoon characters in the Top 50 at all, I think, although Wallace & Gromit made it, so plasticene was okay. So, no Professor Zoidberg, Peter Griffin or Bobby Hill. BOO!

These Top 1million wankers lists or whatever they're called are a load of bollocks anyway!

I only caught the top 20ish, but I actually agreed with a lot of them, I was surprised to discover.
