The Sitcom Project Page 2

Oiiiiiiiiiiii.... lol

Would love to join if allowed after not being on this site for a while. Many skills include being vague

A charley input is vital!

The more people join, the better, if a lot of people join we'll split into groups to work on each episode.

And are we all happy with my basic organization of the project? If you are start thinking of ideas for the show itself, you know settings 'n stuff. What did everyone else think of Scott's idea?

Ideas: (bearing in mind have just got back from pub) Home for redundant superheroes/Freemasons wanting to break into stand-up/The emoticon family saga/The history of peanut butter production from 1902 to the present day/Lip Gloss & Lycra - people stuck in the 80's (all working titles of course)

I don't know, they all seem a little too vague to me. ;)

Okay another idea.........

There's this kid(s) (age to be decided) and she/he/or they never see there Dad, he is gone when they get up and not home by the time they go to bed, or not home at all. Each episode is about what they think he could be getting up to, this means we have set characters but our boundaries are free to do anything we want with each episode. There is some mystery because to start with the audience doesn't know either what the father is up to, is he a good man, a henchman, a super criminal, what?

That's me trying to think of something a bit more original but even if an idea from myself or others isn't what we are looking for as a group these ideas can sometimes spark other ideas so they are worth throwing around.

Hi Gavin, hopefully another great project to be working on!

Another idea…………

There is this young man who works for his in-laws and really doesn’t want to be and he is married to their daughter but again he really doesn’t want to be but he is too nice, he either worries about letting people down or hurting their feelings so he suppresses his own, plus also he is a bit of a wimp and doesn’t want the fall out of telling his wife and her over controlling family that he is leaving her so each episode he hatches a plan to either get himself fired or get his wife to dump him but all of these plans generally backfire on himself. Why doesn’t he just quit his job, because both his wife and her family wouldn’t just let him without making his life hell so he needs them to want him to go! How? Well that what he tries to figure out each week.

Another idea…………

There is this scientist and he is either brilliant or totally rubbish but as an audience we don’t know. He says there is a comet that is going to hit the earth in 365 days but no one believes his theory (his theory being that a comet that should miss us will be diverted by the collision with another comet and will hit the earth in one years time)

This man has spent his life with his head in his books and so basically has never really lived outside his academic work but convinced he has one year left he decides enough is enough and he is going to live each day like it is his last but the only problem is he doesn’t know where to start but luckily (or unluckily for him) his prodigy pimp neighbour relishes the chance to give this church choir type the time of his life but of course all the best ideas usually have a flaw and something terribly wrong happens in each episode………..does this scientist always get everything wrong?

Another idea..........

There is a community of pubs in holiday spot in the south of England but the holiday towns glory days are behind them and the town no longer attracts enough tourist to support all the pubs over looking the beach. Instead of working together to boost the areas reputation and attract more holiday makers they fight it out over the few people around and they will restort to anthing.

Another idea.......

This one is a bit more vague but I'm sure as a team we could come up with lots of colourful characters and storylines for it.

This idea is for a show based around a company that debt collects and supplies doormen (and doorwomen) to pubs and clubs. I think this idea would give us the opportunity for lots of interesting characters and would give us the freedom of lots of potentially interesting storylines. The show could be a gritty black comedy like Shameless or a more comical format like the Smoking room

Just a quickie was something I toyed with few years ago...

a company that driver Celebs around follow two drivers (maybe a few different drivers) we could have failed comics etc basically just the journey to take vain moaning pampered people around... lol bit vague but just an idea

I liked the scientist and one year idea, and the trying to get sacked one.

This is my favourite of the lot. But I was kinda hoping we could all figure the plot out in a big brainstorming session. But I suppose this is what this is, in a way.

Can everyone give me an idea of the type of comedy the show you like the show to have? I've just started to watch Arrested Development and I really like that style.

But what are everyones thoughts? Live Studio Audience and err all the other types?

Slow down Leevil. You's way too keen.

:)

It's better to mull an idea or two for a week and then go with the best rather than plough into the first idea that appeals and spend 3 weeks writing something that has no potential for development.

What's been discussed so far is premise, not plot. Plot is series-spanning storyline but also individual episode storyline. Plot is way down the line.

You guys (and gal) spend some time finding a premise that has legs, fill it with characters, THEN discuss potential plots, before going too far down a road with no U-turns.

No, no, no, no, no. You misunderstand me, my dear Slag, I wasn't excepting Scott's idea as final, I was merely stating the fact that I liked that idea the best out of the lot.

I misused the word Plot. I just want to get a feel of what type of show we're leaning towards. With the suggestions of mad scientists and crazy town settings, that makes me think of League of Gentlemen. And as much as I like that show, I personally don't want to go down that route.

But if we're thinking studio based sitcom, then there usually set in one place, a flat, house, office. Were as something like Curb Your Enthusiasm is set anywhere in L.A and has a lot more freedom.

Would this be an idea if we get our fine asses on messnger and have a RT chat about it? we can also see how we work together just a thought

It'd be better if we arrange a time so everyone can have a say.
