Top Cat.

Laughing out loud Yes, Yes! Sergeant Bilko for cool cats and suprisingly easy to imitate
in the playground :D . It's hardly forgotten, but one of my nominations would be the non feline version, Sergeant Bilko even though the world was soooo black and white then ... ;)

That's funny I was just came to this thread to post about Perfect Strangers...how odd, but cool that others remember the show!

I'm not sure this one is forgotten, more than, hardly noticed, but its most certainly underrated. Arrested development. anyone seen it? Only recently started watching it, and cant believe there isn't more hype around it. or at least not that I'm aware of. Genius.

Arrested Development is a tough one to call really in whether it is underrated or not, it got huge critical praise when it was on, won Emmy's and the people that watched it know it is the best sitcom of the last decade. But then ratings wise it didn't do very well, so it's kind of underrated in a commercial sense, it was always shifted around in the schedules on both Fox and the BBC, seasons were cut short, hardly any promotion was given etc. The show is truly brilliant, smart and hilarious so yeah I suppose it is underrated, even by its biggest fans because no matter how much praise you give this show it still deserves more. :D

I remember Action. It always reminds me of a sitcom-writing Nightschool class I attended, in around 2002, as I used to watch it when I got home. I only went to about 4 classes, before packing it in. I remember the tutor claimed to have written a film script, specifically for Danny DeVito, in which he (DeVito) would play the part of a Leprechaun.

Yes, Americom. New word, might catch on.

Anyway, I've been doing some research and there are so many forgotten greats from the world of America. Some examples include:

Titus
Dharma & Greg
Action
Wings
Soap
Night Court
The Norm Show
Sports Night

Most of them were cancelled far too early. I saw an episode of Titus online and found it very funny. Heavily influenced by Christopher Titus's stand-up routine "Norman Rockwell is Bleeding".

Are there any favourites that people particularly have?

I'm afraid to my mind American and sitcom put together = shit.

The only thing there I know or liked was Soap which was brilliant.

Someone hasn't watched Arrested Development Rolling eyes

Someone hasn't watched Arrested Development Rolling eyes

And therefore, they haven't lived!

I didn't put it in the list because I think it's probably got a bit more recognition than some of the others listed, especially since a movie is on the cards.

Also Aaron does not like football.

Yes, we know that.

LOL.

Not a sitcom, and Canadian rather than American but...

'Kids In The Hall' was a fantastic sketch show from the '80s/'90s. Consistently high-quality, funny and original sketches.

It was only shown here (I think) in the early days of the Paramount channel. Not seen it recently. Worth getting hold of it if you can.

Like anyone didn't expect me to not respond to this:
Kids in the Hall ranks (in my opinion) in the top 5 sketch comedy shows of all time.
And they can even teach us today how to write comedy.

Kids in the Hall was shown in Britain on Channel 4, back in around '92/'93. Actually, there's even a Hip hop group named after them.

Favourite characters? Two of my favourites were the mad homeless guy "I'm crushing your head" (performed at a distance between his thumb and index finger), a simple idea brilliantly realised... and Danny Husk, the ex-porn star, high-flying executive. Loved the time he only learnt about his own kidnapping by reading it in the newspaper... Oh, and the two cops were always good.

Does anyone know exactly how many members of the cast were gay? The only one I know was definately gay, was the one who was in The Larry Sanders Show, but all of them were pretty camp, so it was hard to tell.

My favorite were the French trappers who hunted Office workers. I found it here: but you have to skip over the first "nutty bunny" sketch.

I know Scott Thompson is gay. I don't think any of the other guys were though even though they did played a lot of gay characters.
