Laura, Ben and Him Page 2

Quite an improvement this week. As marmalade implied, some of Laura's characters seem to be just an excuse to do an amusing accent, but she's consistent, and very funny despite any motives. Loved the horse lady particularly. The mother was great again, as were the fruits and the closet city-types. The lesbian and the posh couple also welcome returns. :)

Marek and Ben I'm yet to be 'sold' on though. Their sketches just don't hit the mark for me - not as consistently as Laura's anyway. I'm not sure if that's coincidence, their performances, or the writing...

I liked the sketch where he was naming all the different types of bag. Even though it didn't really go anywhere.

I just didn't get that.

The lawyer thing with the disabled PA/secretary lady seemed to drag with no laughs. Ditto Red Arrows. Pity.

I think his expressions just make me laugh sometimes.

Ooh, and the wine drinking thing! Not funny necessarily, but perversely entertaining.

I liked the Red Arrows, also Ben Willbonds sketch as the documentary filmmaker in the children's play park.

Yeah, the historian recalling the children's playground conflict was a very well-written and performed sketch.

I'll edit this post but imo this one was the best. The Car-Aeroplane Flight Attendent & the Tim Henman supporters had me lol'ing.

Yes, I agree. Best of the series so far. Much more levelled out, with some great stuff from the boys too, rather than just Laura. I did a lot of lol-ing. But one particularly great sketch I now can't even remember because it was RUINED by something about shooting a cat in the face right after it. That made me :(.

Thought it was awful tonight. And it's sponsored by Frosty Jacks how chavy is that?

The Frosty Jacks adverts were actually quite funny I thought. Doesn't matter what they do, they're never going to convince people that it is a drink for anyone other than tramps and teenagers on park benches though!

As for Laura, Ben and Him, I dunno I still quite like it. They always seem to have a couple of bad sketches (the bloke running up to the camera telling us where the bastards are - what was that all about!)

To make up for it thought they do have some quite endearing characters - I like the gay toffs, the posh lawyer (lover and man) and the bickering posh couple. The fox one was quite good too I thought.

Anyway, don't complain too hard - I'm sure you'd agree it's better ITV2 is putting this sort of show on rather than more Trisha, Jeremy Kyle and Jordan.

Can't say I've ever heard of Frosty Jacks before, and those little trailers are so painful I'll purposely steer clear of it on principle.

Anyway.

I'm getting a really strange vibe from Laura, Ben and Him. I feel as if I shouldn't like it - but I can't help really rather enjoying it. I'm beginning to wonder if that's the stigma of recent British sketch-show-output.

Sooo yeah, a bit hit and miss (as is the nature of sketch shows), and Laura's still the star for me. Great to see the horse lady back, although thought the impressions this week were a bit too 'out there'. Great new twist on the fruits, but must admit I missed the lesbian and the Narnia guy - although at least it's good not to see the ideas being raped week-in, week-out as would be the case elsewhere.

So all in all, a very good show really. Yes there's the odd dud (dudd?) few, but that's the inherent nature of sketch shows. It's certainly much better than a lot of the recent offerings. Looking forward, as ever, to next week's episode.

... Although I still feel I shouldn't be liking it much!

I enjoyed this weeks. Some forgettable sketches and some really good. The whole "Lindy!" sketch. The documentary filmmaker. Also the posh couple, with this line by Laura Solon...

"My mother actually went mad. She thought Terry Wogan lived at the bottom of garden. Turns out it was just the neighbours radio turned up really loud."

not even going to give this show the time of day. This keith lemon character needs a slap. incidentley bo selecta was trash aswell.
