Spoof films? Page 2

Oh, and by the way, is that a young Steve Carrell in the clip?
Quote: Curt @ April 10 2008, 11:02 PM BSTThe Wayans bros (who did Scary Movie) did make some pretty funny spoofs
I tried watching Spinal Tap.
I guess you've got to be a musician or someone close to music business to really understand it.
Spoof films are funny for 10 minutes in general Majority of them are clearly aimed at teen audience.

Pish and nonsense! It's a very funny film, accessible to anybody. I can appreciate people not liking that style of comedy, but it's got nothing to do with the subject matter.
Agree that Spinal Tap is accessable but I didn't find it funny. Blazing Saddles ruined all spoofs for all time [slightly over stated maybe}. Best ever. It took the mick out of so many genres and brilliantly written by me!

Never heard of that movie, I will check it out. And no it's not Carell I just looked into it.
I think Leevil named some pretty good spoofs that are above the "just for teen" label. Mel Brooks spoof movies like Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein for example are considered by most film critics as classic and influential.
I remember watching a documentary on Blazing Saddles and how many theaters would mute out the fart scene. That movie in particular opened a lot of doors for comedy.
Here is one spoof on war movies I am REALLY excited to see: Tropic Thunder I busted a gut watching this trailer ooooh man I love Robert Downey Jr.
I think spoof movies are in a pretty poor state at the moment, with the dreary Not Another... franchise and the recent Meet The Spartans embarrassment.
Agreed, don't unplug that life support on Mel Brooks yet! We need one more good spoof movie out of the geezer.
There was a recent(ish) sports one about a really shit coach of an American football team, but I just can't think what it was called. It had that Asian girl off Bend It Like Beckham in it.
Anyway, that one was ok - better than a lot of recent ones anyway.
What's Mel done recently? The last I saw of him was in Season 5 of Curb Your Enthusiasm. And I was possibly too harsh on writing off spoof movies. Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg movies like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are probably two of the funniest movies of the last ten years. Both affectionate spoofs.
Robin Hood Men In Tights was another I don't think has been mentioned.
And this guy's probably right, maybe one of the best bits in Loaded Weapon. This is my favourite spoof of all time! Even better than Blazing Saddles!

Thanks for the input Jake.
And Blazing saddles is a classic, I haven't seen it for a while... Actually.
