Artic Monkeys. by those lads can.... can... strum.

Arctic Mediocrities, more like.

I am listening to the gay chiripping of my arsehole. I ate egg sarnies & I have bad wind.

I prefer the new, spin-off band they have-"The Last Shadow Puppets." I've never really seen the amazing appeal of Arctic Monkeys.

Haven't heard of this Puppet malarkey, but my brother was a huge fan of theirs - until they got signed. Haha.

Here's something most, if not all of you, will have never seen/heard before. This bloke from Burnley, known as DJ Woody, who, by the way, is arguably the world's greatest DJ, has taken the art of scratching to such a high level, that the turntable can now be classed as a valid musical instrument. In this clip you're about to see, Woody has a simple beat playing on his left turntable, and on his right turntable, he has the sound of a flute, which is about 3-seconds long. He then somehow manages to manipulate the flute sound, using the 33 1/3 and 45 speed buttons and the pitch control, on the right turntable, the cross fader and the volume fader, on his mixer, and by manipulating the actual vinyl/record that has the 3-second flute sample on it, to create almost 2 minutes of music. Sorry catskills, but as a musician I can't agree with that in the slightest.
Every now and then he's pitch shifting a pre-made sample - wow!

I'm not denying that there's some kind of skill involved in what he's doing, but musician? I think not.

Nobody's saying it's on a par with the Moonlight Sonata clip you posted the other day, but Woody definately deserves more credit than you're giving him. At least he's not one of these glorified wedding DJs, like Judge Jools, Fatboy Slim, or Pete Tong, who get treated like Gods, for simply mixing "thud, thud" records over each other.

Delihah-Plain White Ts

I need to date women with names I can use in songs. Rebecca is a bit tricky :(

I'm listening to "Cage the Elephant" :P

No I think he does deserve credit, as I said it is a skill and what he does he clearly does well.

The only thing I was taking issue with was the decks being recognised as an instrument. I don't believe anyone can make that claim about samplers either. This would most probably come down to a matter of opinion anyway, but that's mine. I'm not snobby about it, but for me it's pushing the definition just a wee bit too far. A DJ is a DJ and has his/her own particular set of skills.

I am in total agreement with that. I wonder sometimes if the people who idolise them are aware that they don't actually write the music they're playing?

Take me to the girl, by the Associates

amazed I never heard of them they're rather good

have developed a belief that as Tilt is quite similar to Weekending.

If I listen to the Weekending theme tune (Part Fears 2) enough I'll get something in.

Look Away Now on Wednesday's on Radio 4. It's a funny show, and you don't have to be a sports buff to like it. Bizarrely, Gary Richardson is proving to be a very capable comedy anchor.
