Without Gene & the two other detectives, this series would be quite shite. It is not really the fault of whats her name. She had some big arse shoes to fill. I blame the writers for her character. She is a very beautiful lady though. The bitch!

Aren't they all real? Just in the past? Life on Mars had the black copper, I think? Ended up being head of the force? Alex's parents and godfather are real enough too. As was the guy who shot her in the first place.

I think that's the whole point of it. Are they real and did Alex and Sam some how time travel into the past.
However it doesn't explain why Sam DIDN'T check when he went back to his own time. That would have been the first thing I would have done.
Note that in the first episode, whilst Alex was shocked to see Gene, she didn't exclaim "BUT YOU'RE NOT REAL" (as far as I remember). And I'm sure she would have looked them all up, having been looking into Sam's case!
That's a point actually. Alex knows she's imagining everything, but she says things like 'I know my mum loved me now' etc. Since she thinks she's imagining these things wouldn't she be thinking it was just a fantasy she created herself?
Also, how come we see the other characters doing stuff when Alex isn't around? If it's her imagination they wouldn't exist when she's not thinking about them.
How do you know she's not thinking of them? Have you never had a dream where you're not actually in it?

It is a waiting room for people between Life & Death, where they get answers to some questions. Gene himself is God. So it is not real & it is not fantasy. Thats what I think anyhoo.

I biding my time until I can think of a time when she was taken by surprise by something one of them did which would prove she couldn't have seen them.

Just watched the last two episodes. There are two very different vibes coming from both the one where she's losing control Gene is very much "out of control" beating up that charity guy but in the next he is taking her hand as a child so this is very much a fantasy as was Sam's.
Drake is certainly no Tylor but she is fit and only reason I've really watched the last few.the chemistry has not been there. Somethings are not meant to last and I think this series should have been one of them.
