Gene Hunt's a pussy compared to some of the men women do find attractive. Killers and out and out psycopaths are often bombarded with letters in prison from adoring women.

As for the show, it's a tired old rehash of Life on Mars with none of the charm. Gene Hunt's still entertaining but it's all becoming a bit too self conscious and posturing. Still, it keeps the plebs happy.

So, series now over, what's the verdict?

I just watched the last 2 eps back to back and thought, not to be too technical, they were f**king brilliant!
Rollercoaster ride - was amazing and I can't wait for series 2.

I enjoyed it. I missed a couple of episodes, but saw enough to follow everything.

I'm glad they got blown up, and I totally didn't see it coming, who the clown was and everything.

I heart Gene!
I'm glad there's another series.
I want him to be the only main character though.

Largely ditto zooo (I don't heart Gene, although he is a great character, no doubt). I think the key with Life on Mars, and Ashes to Ashes, is that nothing actually happens, in terms of the linear story arc, in any episode other than the first and last. If one can catch a few in the middle then it'll help to outline some constants, as t'were, but it's not needed to understand what's going on.

But where can they go with it next?

But I think all the characters are ace. I love Chris he really makes me laugh. Ray is funny as well. Alex is ace and fit too. They're just ALL ace (I even like Shaz though I wish they'd given her some better lines)!

Rest of series: Gene Gene Gene... Doing stuff. Sam comes back! The end.

Yeah, the other cops really grew on me as it went on... they can stay.
