The cameo 'homages' to movies in 'Spaced'...

I find these quite well done and an enriching feature. My favourite is the Terminator take off in the 'Help' episode.

Can anyone point to similar stuff in other sitcoms?

Griff, you are after my heart. :)

Coupling - Reservoir Dogs

But is that a homage or a spoof? What's the difference?

*continues to stroke chin*

Just a joke about blokes doing blokey stuff.

My favourite Spaced homage was the Pulp Fiction Pop Tart one.

I liked the homages in Spaced, they were fun. There were majorly obvious ones like the Matrix sequence, but even they were weaved into the storyline and added to with original ideas. And then there were loads of subtle ones, some of which I probably haven't even noticed yet because I haven't seen the film in question.

I could have lived without them too though, as they didn't form a major part of the show. It would be just as good without them.

The Scooby Doo one always makes me smile.

Oh yeah! That one's so funny.

A spoof is taking the piss - the object being taken off is the butt of the joke.

Homage is a nice tribute. Most of Spaced is a homage.

And Spaced is ace - if not a touch dated.

They did do more subtle ones!
Maybe you only noticed the obvious ones...

I loved all the references in Spaced. There are so many who do without class.

Family Guy comes to mind. Sometimes it makes me laugh, but a lot of the time, they don't do anything with it. Like the VonTrapp children going to bed... it just kept going and going and they weren't doing anything with it. Then you had that awful 'Epic Movie' with Borat in it? WTF was that? If you satire satire you're a genius, but that was nothing short of retarded. They just had him in there, for no reason, and relied on the mankini. So they didn't even interject with their own comment. God, it just makes me so angry when...

well... anyway.

I think Spaced was positively endearing in its approach to homage/reference/satire of cultural hallmarks.

Gosh, I'm opinionated.

I agree Geoffrey, I hate those bits in Epic movie, well actually I only saw the first 10 minutes, dunno how I stuck it out that long?

Same here, I may have watched 15 minutes at most. One of the most unfunny movies I had ever seen.
I like the Spaced homages to film especially the Star Wars ones like the burning of all his Star Wars stuff when Episode I sucked so bad. I laughed so hard because it was exactly how I felt plus it was giving a homage to the original films.
One great homage was the entire Simpsons episode that was filmed like Pulp Fiction. I loved that episode it was so good!

Epic movie truly did suck... almost as bad as scary movie....

Still love spaced though, shame they cut it after series 2. However, i reckon they usually go down hill after series 3... even peep show, series 4 seems a bit bland. I expect a flaming for that

Edit-Double post, my bad :D
