Last One Laughing UK

Just watched the first 3 episodes of Last One Laughing UK, on Amazon Prime - pretty good so far!

Ten comedians are locked in a room for 6 hours, trying to make each other laugh while keeping a straight face - if someone laughs, or even smiles, they're given a yellow card - then the second time they're out of the game.

It's hosted by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty - and the contestants in the room are Bob Mortimer, Richard Ayoade, Harriet Kemsley, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders and Joe Wilkinson. So, the usual people who crop up all the time on Cats Does Countdown and/or Taskmaster etc. but at least it's a different sort of format to the various panel shows etc.

Only problem is that the episodes finish really abruptly and instantly show highlights from the next episode before the end credits roll, which is a bit of a spoiler unless you're quick with the remote.

There are 6 episodes altogether, and at the moment just the first 4 are available to watch.

The format has also been done in Ireland (hosted by Graham Norton), France, Germany, Canada, Mexico, and several other countries, and surprisingly they're also free to watch on Amazon Prime.

I literally got amazon prime for this (well, a free trial anyway). Only watched one ep, but I love it so far! Can't wait to see Richard Ayoade break, it has to happen sometime. Especially with Bob Mortimer talking to him.

I was a bit sceptical of how this would work, but I shouldn't have worried, the first two episodes made me howl with laughter, I knew Lou woukd be aggressive in her approach, and Bob is, well, Bob. No idea what it will take to make Richard break but if anyne can do it, Bob can. I've lined up the Irish and Australian versions to watch next.

I highly recommend the Australian version. They go a lot harder than the UK contestants, Anne Edmonds is a force of nature and if you thought Sam Simmons was surreal from his appearances on Cats Does Countdown etc, he outdoes himself here, absolute insanity.

Good fun, I thought.
It won't set the world alight, but it a refreshing change on the comedy panel show.

I've seen all the Irish version now - didn't really work for me.

Looking forward to the remaining 2 episodes of the UK version though, coming on Thursday!

Absolutely hideous. Bob and Lou were particular highlights. Need more!

Wasn't it great?
They've set a pretty high bar with the quality of the contestants, though.
It needs 4 or 5 really high calibre people.
Could do without the ubiquitous "Coming up next" teasers, though.

Just finished watching all six episodes, and I haven't laughed that much in a long time. I agree that the previews are unnecessary and unwelcome.

Yep, good stuff! The format clearly works, and I can imagine it doing well with many of the usual people who appear on everything (Greg Davies, James Acaster, etc etc).

Unfortunately, the previews bollocks also happens in the Irish and Canadian versions, so might happen in the numerous other countries' versions as well. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so sudden, without any warning that the episode's even finished.

The Irish version didn't do it for me. But the Canadian one is good, and includes some familiar faces like Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it Anyway), Mae Martin (Taskmaster) and Tom Green.

Tried the Irish version during the wait week, but couldn't even get to the end of Episode 1. Some great people in it who I like a lot, but others actively painful. It simply didn't gel for me.

My only problem with the UK series is how on earth they can ever follow it up. No casting will ever be that good again.

It was great fun, the other series look interesting I'd probably go for canada as that seemed the best first ep of the foreign ones
I have a sneaking suspicion that Richard deliberately handed it to Bob a bit
but so would I

I actually think Richard got away with a sneaky laugh early on.
I could well imagine the producers giving him (and Bob) a bit of leeway as they were so fantastic - and clearly the ones to beat.

Agreed! He totally smiled at something half way through. Glad he stayed in though, he and Bob were a worthy final two.

Tim Key for series 2.
