The gambling thread Page 43

Yes I'll have a go that one too ta, I like these as you can't lose. I wish I was more up this new acca freeze thing, just found out if I'd used it last weekend I'd've won about £70 instead of nowt - good Yorkshire word for you there SG. I'll see if I can be more on the ball with it today...

Of course, what you've both failed to take into account is that the horse didn't win.

(Not my slip btw. I merely posted it to highlight the danger of betting at long odds-on - if I had £20,000 to spare, I wouldn't risk it in the hope of winning £8,000.)

Ah, you had your thumb over the not winning bit, but now I see PL...which I assume meant it was placed. You'd still have lost several grand, so 20k seems very risky, foolhardy I'd say. Does make you wonder about the oddsmaker though, did he get that one right?? Don't know enough about racing but in team sports if a team is 2/5 it's pretty much a certainty, but then I suppose you only have two players, not several as in racing.

Bloody Brighton.

Yeah well don't mention Ultser then in rugby! Last to play on Sunday in the weekend games I had two 6 folds on, and all the others won. I never for a moment thought a team at 1/33 would lose. But that they did, and cleared out the 40 odd quid I'd had in the account to put it all on that lot just for barely £20 profit after covering a couple of 1/2s backing the other team for security.

If I'd bothered to do it for that last game, I'd have won over a hundred probably. But no, the team who hadn't won away in 36 games over 4 years decided to change that yesterday! I should give up now, my luck at gambling is getting worse, if that were possible. 😠

A £5 free bet with Skybet for the first day of Cheltenham (opt-in required).

William Hill on-line doing likewise (opt-in required).

Paddy Power on-line also offering a free bet (amount undisclosed until you log in).

Tote.co.uk giving a free bet (up to £10) - valid for 7 days - if your horse finishes 2nd in all races of 5+ runners (win bets & the win portion of ew bets) - opt-in required. (Would be an ideal way to back either the favourite or the 2nd favourite in the Champion Hurdle - whichever is your selection)

William Hill Plus card holders get a £5 free bet tomorrow via the SSBT machines in shop.

Thank you.

Yes ta, I'd forgotten to check up on Cheltenham, as I'm still a GG novice who only puts pins in The Grand National runners. All the stats and variables bewilder me, especially when I look in later to see the clear favourite didn't win, which seems to be almost every race I bet on. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I got a different offer btw on Skybet which seems odd, unless they're personalised.

And they're doing an ITV7 every race day on it don't forget, that's my return tip.

The Sky free £5 bet for today is there Alf. It's not obvious but a mooch about and you will find the 'opt in page.
Good luck.

Mine is on Salvator Mundi in the first race. Sky are offering a measly 12/1 while all the rest are 16/1. I have taken the SP rather than Sky's.
Sky always point shave, so SP is always more profitable.

Well my 5 pound bet lost
how did everyone else do ?

I put mine (plus an extra tenner of my own) on the winning distance of the mares hurdle being more than 5 lengths @ 2/1. So, by only risking £10 but with a potential profit of £30, I effectively got 3/1 about what the bookies considered a 2/1 chance. Which is always good. Lossiemouth won by 7.5 lengths.

Today's Skybet offer is bet £5 at Cheltenham on Wednesday - get a £5 free bet valid for 7 days (opt-in required). Paddy Power on-line also offering a free bet (only £1 in my case - may be more for others).

I nearly went for an enhanced Skybet on the same horse winning by a distance but with Duc de Grugy ? 2nd at 6.5/1 but talked myself out of it, thinking it was too niche. And guess what, it came in. 😠 But I'll tip Lossiemouth as a future Grand National winner, what a great looking GG. (Not that I'll ever know anything about the sport of kings.)

That Champion race was fun. Two ex winners going down, and here's me thinking 'how can horses fall over those little things.' Put's the fences at Aintree into perspective now. 🤔 🏇🏻

I changed my mind about my above post and used 'cash out to return my free bet.
I then used it on another race but forgot my own rules about SP and as the race was about to go, I used Sky odds - robbing myself of a tenner with better SP odds.
But I'm not really complaining.....

Well be careful today. Don't get over-excited if you see Lossiemouth running in the 2.40 at odds of 66/1. It's a different Lossiemouth!

I'd also definitely hold bets on her being a future Grand National winner. She's only ever run over hurdles, she'll be 7 next year so a bit late to be switching to fences. And there's been no indication that she's likely to do so any time soon (if anything, possibly to be aimed at the Champion Hurdle next year). Plus of course yesterday's race was only over 2 1/2 miles -rather than 4 miles 2 furlongs..

My new dog is called Jimmy, so naturally, I saw there was a horse named Jimmy.
Had a nice e/w bet and he won at 16/1.

Maybe that's the way forward then. It'll save having to plough through the form of 130-odd horses and it'll save £5.20 per day on the cost of the Racing Post. There, that's £20.80 up on the week already. Anyone else got any pets?

Meanwhile today's best offers are with Skybet (bet £5 today; get a £5 free bet, valid for 7 days, credited instantly) and with William Hill on-line (bet £5 win today; get a free £5 bet tomorrow). Opt-in required in both cases. Bet365 have boosted the price of Fact To File in the 3.20 to 5/2 (from 11/8).

I was listening to a trainer on the radio this morning and he was very confident about his horses chance in the first race today.
He said he didn't bet as he was superstitious, but all his staff had big eachway bets on.
When the yard employees put their money on, it's a good sign.
The horse; Hollygrove cha cha (it has already fallen from 40/1 to 28/1)
