Yeah all pretty much where I expected except maybe the Missiles Ltd factory, being at Shepperton Studios - surely that's not a constructed set, with all the tall chimneys and everything?

The studio would have had workshops and all manner of support facilities, some needing chimneys like that. You can see similar in Carry On At Your Convenience at Pinewood.

I did point out it was a matted set

Well specifically you said 'matted shot', which doesn't require a studio set, it can use all locations because of the clever technique. The film's impressive in how unartificial it looks, a problem I find with many modern day movies. Good photos these.

In film order..................
At the start of the film Stanley Windrush applies for a position with Detto. The gates of the old Firestone Tyre Company premises on Great West Road, Brentford, Middlesex.
The demolition of the Firestone Factory was the subject of questionable actions in 1980 but the gates, piers and railings received Grade ll listing in 2001.
Yes, note the fencing

Yes, I believe you can do Pinewood Studio tours of the sets or locations at least of some of the more memorable Carry On scenes. Which is high on my bucket list to do one day.

I'm sure I recognised one of the buildings Stanley visited at the start of the film, the big white one maybe Num Yum ? which is still there or was 3/4 years ago when I passed by, on the same road as this not far from the Sky HQ site. Some great industrial buildings along that road, driving past doesn't really do justice to them, walking would be better for taking them all in. Hmm that's another one for my bucket list. 🤓

Not the Hoover Factory?

"Five miles out of London on the Western Avenue
Must've been a wonder when it was brand new."

Still is now, they've kept it looking pristine, and last time I passed they'd converted it into posh flats, albeit on a very busy and noisy dual carriageway. đŸ›Ŗī¸đŸš—đŸš—đŸš—

Well, I was only trying to help - I won't bother next time

Definitely not within Pinewood itself, I'm afraid. Very difficult to get beyond those gates these days unless you work there.

They were the lyrics to Elvis Costello's "Hoover Factory".

I do like then and now contrast photos, especially if you've recently been there. And at least keeping external features like original railings and iron street lamps is pretty essential to keep a glimmer of the road's heritage, especially when so many were torn down to make so many ineffectual tanks in WW2. ☚ī¸

Yes I've just googled their pretty private looking website. They do have an on site cinema for public use, but have zero film showings scheduled! Not the most inviting of British heritage sites, I have to say. ☚ī¸

Though for those who like taking risks (not me) minor Carry On face Valerie Leon does run a tour of some of the film locations. The ones mentioned don't exactly inspire my enthusiasm, having passed by them for work - The exterior of the old Slough Town Hall on the very busy A4 (as glimpsed in Carry On Girls), now a school, or Windsor & Maidenhead Town Hall, used for the exterior shot of the Hospital in Carry On Doctor, or a woodland spot in Black Park seen in Carry On Dick.

The most intriguing has to be the former shop 'where Sid and Bernie bought their tent in Carry On Camping'. It doesn't say where that is, but for 80 quid, I'm happy to die wondering. 🤔

It shut down just a couple of weeks ago, sadly.
