They might (and you yourself are clearly very well informed, articulate and passionate about the subject), but the sad reality is America has elected an administration that doesn't seem to care about Ukraine or doing what's right. It's a long way from the shining city on a hill that Ronalld Reagan used to talk about.
Americans had just endured four years of a zombie administration. The border was essentially wide-open, and the economy was in a shambles. All the while, Big Media was covering up the president's obviously declining condition. We would've elected a ham sandwich if it meant shaking things up in Washington.
Ukraine was not at the top of most voters' list of important issues. I'm an outlier. I'll admit that.
I can ignore most of Donald Trump's narcissistic foibles. I can't ignore blatant pandering to Vladimir Putin. He is evil personified.
I don't think this administration will survive very long if they don't change course.
I'm not sure that Europe will be able to coalesce around a common goal quickly enough.
Champagne corks are popping in the Kremlin.
China will be updating their plans to invade Taiwan.
Barring some sort of miracle, many lives will be lost because of what we saw in Washington today.
My daughter and I have been planning a trip to the Baltics for her 40th birthday. Christmas markets, snow, and mulled wine - who could ask for more? Now I'm worried that Americans will be persona non grata in Europe. Israel seems to be the only friendly nation that we haven't alienated so far, but it's not really on my must-see list.
