You had it right the first time, and never imo quite pulled off the entertainment value of the original radio show, which I usually listen to once a week, especially with the Beeb still running a very good repeat series of every episode in their library.
My personal pick of the recent ones, is "The Macreekie Rising of '74", which is one of the funniest, despite ironically Spike Milligan not being in it owing to illness, with his parts being taken partly by the very funny jazz trombonist George Chisholm - was actually written by Spike though, with Larry Stephens whose biography I have just finished reading.
Captain Neddie Seagoon has captured the great hairy caber of the Clan MacReekie from the Scots and taken it to the Tower of London. Laird Red Hairy MacLegs lays siege to the tower. Major Bloodnok stores the caber in the Crown Jewels room, which is empty at the moment. The Jewels are perfectly safe - the pawn ticket's under lock and key.

George McChisholm "But England is South!"
Hairy MacLegs "Aye, we're going to march right round the world!"
Insane, but I love it, with Peter Sellers doing his wonderful Scottish accent

I've got stacks of books to read; biogs of people like Debbie Harry, Rod Stewart, Suzi Ronson (widow of Mick) to name a few. Plus I'm getting addicted to buying old comic annuals I used to have such as Eagle and Victor and now I'm buying Rover from the 40s and 50s. That's not to mention the hundreds of LPs and CDs I haven't got around to hearing.
