Thanks Herc that was a good one, pleased with my 9/10 and 4/5.

Got Q8 wrong (I remember the show being a thing but I never actually watched it), and also Q15.

Wow! Certainly well done there, Niki!! And it seems to be a general consensus that yes, Q15 was too hard, but I was thinking not maybe to an out and out Carry On fan

Well I'm a fan and have COC as one of their best, er 🤔, with the new scriptwriter putting a bit more oomph in the narrative, and did actually narrow the choice down to two models including the Cortina, which I knew to have similar looking front ends. But I plumped for the Victor, which I thought was probably an older and more established car than the newer Ford Cortina, at the time the film was made. Alas wrong. ☚ī¸

Maybe regretting setting that one, which Mark thought was too hard, but then he is only a young whipper-snapper, and I thought IF 😁 you were a big fan of that particular film you wouldn't have forgotten the row of brand new Cortinas lined up with their babe drivers ready for inspection 🤓

Christmas Quiz 2024 by Niki Walton! Some trademark tricky ones Niki, but 6/10 for me, which is a decent score. A few educated guesses (question 1 was a process of elimination as I knew it wasn't the others), and a few I definitely knew like the Bill Bailey one.

Only Fools question was an easy one for me as I've probably seen all the episodes at least twice, some loads of times. Though I get the impression that OFAH isn't popular among the other forum regulars here (all f**ken seven of them!) or at least it doesn't seem to get talked about much?

Correct: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

6 out of 10, 2 out of 5 for me!
I always get roughly the same score regardless of whoever writes the quiz. Do anyone else's scores vary dramatically?
Good festive fun nevertheless!
And, no, am actually not a huge Only Fools... fan, though certainly don't hate it.
Merry Christmas everyone!

6/10. I knew # 6, 7 & 8 and correctly guessed # 1, 3 & 5 in various degrees of educatedness.

I'm not sure I understood question # 2.

Well done a plate 🎅

Well done Chris! I do like OFAH but I'm not a huge fan, I think it has an image of being the sentimental favourite which overshadows how well-crafted it is when it's at its best.

Merry Christmas ❄ī¸

Well done Billy - Q2 had to be reworded after W&G were revealed as the stars of this year's BBC1 Christmas idents, so that was a late edit.

Same for me! 😁 Was a bit fiendish, but logic prevailed, unless I never heard of the peeps in question!

7/10 & 4/5. Nice to see Wallace & Gromit back at Xmas. And yes, odd there aren't as many posts on OFAH these days but I'm not sure that means it's not well liked here, although I have sensed maybe there's a touch of snobbishness and even a tinge of jealousy of its constant no.1 ratings in general sitcom surveys. There are things I'd criticise in its long run, but at its peak it was a belter of a sitcom.

Well done AJK, hard agree on W&G, looking forward to the new episode 🎄

Mine can, yes. This was possibly my highest score on Niki's quizzes. When there's a quiz with a lot of stand up and panel show cra...er stuff in them I can get 3 or 4 at best. When there's older more familiar comedy ie. in Herc's quizzes I usually do pretty well. That's why it's good to have the variety that different quiz setters give. And time for another from yourself, I'd say. ?

I'd no idea what an ident is. Hence my failure to understand the question.

I say, come come now, Mr Bunter you fat owl. Now I want you write out 100 lines "An ident is a symbol or design that identifies a TV channel", in it's simplest terms, and to make it easier for you, here is one from the 1950s, which I'm sure you will remember............

In other words, the little animation identifying the television channel when a programme is introduced. Think the BBC1 globes up to the 1990s, the BBC1 balloon, the BBC2 teal look of the 1990s (the blade drop, the paint splash, the blinking lights), the Channel 4 puzzle pieces. BBC1 usually do a special version for Christmas and in the past it's featured Wallace & Gromit, who returned this year.

I can recommend the website https://tvark.org/branding if you're interested in a bit of nostalgia (or a bit of what-where-they-on-when-they-thought-that-up).
