I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,886

Yes this is usually the stock response when any tangible benefits fail to be cited.
Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.

Its the response of selfish people that haven't had their cushy lives affected by this ludicrous decision so it's just a big joke and doesn't matter

I'm alright Jack, in full effect

Why on Earth would anyone claim that they regretted voting for Brexit if they didn't genuinely regret it?

Because I don't believe any of them. They're just remoaners trying to stir things up.

Good article on the Daily Express website under the headline:

Starmer has just done to Waspi women what he's done to the rest of the country

"Chancellor Rachel Reeves stuck the knife in just weeks after the election, instantly stripping 10 million pensioners of their winter fuel payment. Yet in 2017, Labour had produced research showing that scrapping the payment would kill 4,000 pensioners every winter. How can Reeves live with herself knowing that?

She then twisted the blade by axing the proposed £86,000 cap on social care costs. Tens of thousands of older people will now be forced to sell their homes to cover care fees.

Neither of these measures appeared in the Labour manifesto.

In her Budget, Reeves geared up to inheritance tax on unused pension pots from 2027 with a potential income tax bill on top.

Yesterday, Labour dished out another pensioner punishment beating, telling so-called Waspi women they won't receive a penny in compensation.

This really is beginning to look like a pattern.

At least Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall was open and honest about the decision. She said most women didn't deserve compensation because they "knew the state pension age was increasing". As a result the government didn't believe paying them £10.5billion "would be fair or proportionate to taxpayers", Kendall added.

If only her boss Keir Starmer had been so open and honest with Waspis. Instead, he pretended he was on their side, right up to the point until he wasn't. In March 2022, I broke the news that Waspi campaigners had won a pledge of support from Starmer, then leader of the opposition. He was pictured at the Scottish Labour Party Conference in Glasgow holding up a pledge saying: "I support fair and fast compensation for 1950s women."

Now that he no longer needs their support, he no longer supports them. There will be no Waspi compensation on his watch, whether fair, fast or otherwise.
Something else Labour didn't put in the manifesto. In my view, Starmer never supported Waspi women. He just said whatever was convenient at the time.
***

We've seen that pattern time and again since he took power.

Starmer misled Waspi women, just like he's misled pensioners, farmers, business owners, taxpayers and working people.

All politicians play fast and loose with the truth, but I can't remember any having such a naked disregard for it as Starmer. Or such disregard for the very poorest pensioners.

When Starmer retires, he'll enjoy £1million-plus pension, funded by taxpayers. He'll never know what it's like to retire on the bread line, and today we learned he doesn't even care. It's only pensioners after all. And they certainly won't be voting for him at the next election."

*** Of course, as I think I said at the Brighton Conference:

The Daily Express? Really?
And the Starmer/Johnson comparison isn't ageing well. Starmer has never done anything which even remotely compares to Johnson's mountain of lies.

You don't have to defend the indefensible you know. You can be critical, even of your preferred government, when the situation warrants it. That's allowed in a democracy (which we still currently have, at least in theory). I have been critical of the Conservative party for years.

Although I note that you don't actually defend their actions. You just attack those that have brought it to the attention of others (the Daily Express, me...)

You can only criticise your own government if you are Right wing or a Torie.
If you are left and Labour, you'll never hear a word of dissent. What he says, goes.

I see he and his motley crew (ALL of them) have completely reneged on their pre-election promises of support for the Waspis when they got in power.
LIES on top of LIES on top of LIES on top of........................

Remainers and rejoiners are constantly blaming Brexit for the NHS waiting lists, cost of living, lack of housing which were mostly caused by being in the EU, not leaving it. It's impossible to cure that instantly, as we're stuck with the millions of new citizens who came here to live and overburdened our infrastructure. Surely the selfish ones are the immigrants who've flooded here for a better life at our expense?

And yet facts are facts. Each paper adds its own political opinion to them, as the Guardian does to defend woke Britain haters. But Starmer and co. have broken pre election promises and stabbed some of its own supporters in the back.

Blimey.
You might want to try reading The Guardian for a bit.
This govt. is getting plenty of criticism from within it's own party & membership - mainly due to it's over-cautious approach.
You have decided "Lefties" are a thing - like "Woke" is a thing - tarring one and all with the same brush.
This of course suits those for whom nuance is an inconvenience and polarisation, a useful tool

Maybe everyone secretly supported Brexit all along? I doubt it though.

You could say the same of you - you never criticise the Tories over anything. Labour certainly aren't flawless and certainly deserve criticism over some things. Absurd to suggest Starmer is anything like as dishonest as Johnson was though (as BB did).

I disagree vehemently. Johnson came out with some lies and exaggerations, it is true. As all politicians do. But nothing in Starmer's league or with such audacity. Virtually everything he stood for when he was "a friend of Corbyn" was ditched as soon as he'd got rid of Corbyn; virtually everything he stood for prior to the election, and on which he got elected, has been ditched now he's in power; virtually everything he's implemented since he came into power was not in the manifesto on which he was elected.

Born into privilege and rolling in it too. Such a hypocrite. When do you think he'll invite Putin over?
